The 241 is a diecast head which results in a smoother casting than the older sand cast 853/806s. You may not even see a difference if you swap em as is. Ported they are the same since the ports are the same and after porting the smoothness of the diecasting is no longer a factor.

Different cam and intake between em too. The heads do flow better but if thats the only thing changed(just heads), then its minimal on the gain because the flow difference isnt enough.

The cam actually got smaller on the '01 and '02 heads to improve torque. The latter years did better as they got the LS6 intake and better exhaust manifolds not to mention the "semi-permanent mold" castings over the sand cast 853 heads.

From what I understand 853's are limited moreso for porting as opposed to the 241's, their walls are thinner and the stock air flow angles are not as good.

Nope, same exact shape. Any difference in angle is soley due to casting. That can be taken care of with one pass of an aggressive cutter.

[QUOTE=staringback05]when i opened the cutout there was a major difference between the old 99 motor and this 01 motorQUOTE]

What do you mean "difference"? Is there a difference in sound, idle smoothness, power, etc? An 01/02 motor vs a 98-00 is no more then a 15hp difference stock vs stock. Are you sure there aren't any problems or changes to this motor then the last? There are cams out there that idle like stock...
