Default Help Identify LS6 versus LS2 heads

Ok these are 243 castings but I am wondering if there is a way to tell the difference between the LS6 version and the LS2 version. Are they springs yellow on the LS2 version or no?

no way same casting unless you flip it over and it says the year. my heads are 04 castings.

really doesnt matter both are same except for lighter valves. and you can now also find 243 on a GXP

The only difference is the valves. The ls2 valves have white and orange dots on them.

Anyone know what heads these are? Notice the exhaust port is round rather than "D" shaped.

I believe those are LS2 heads also. LS6 have a D-shaped exhaust port. Someone should confirm this though.

The LS2 say 243 also. I don't think you can tell the difference that way. I do believe the exhaust ports are different though.

thats because.......

..... they're the same head.

its still a 243 casting. GM is allowed to use the same casting on more then one engine RPO...

I've been told that LS6 243 heads have D shaped exhaust ports and LS1 (241's) have round ones. I posted a picture of a round port head with 243 casting numbers on it. Looking to see what head it really is.

Technically no. The exhaust ports are different (the gaskets also), so they're not exactly the same head, I'm too lazy to take a pic of mine but it's obvious. Also as others have pointed out they don't have the lighter valves that the 02-04 Z06's have. I know they're interchangeable, thanks. I would run either on my Z06, I could care less.

Aren't the exhaust ports D shaped on both heads? I mean, they are both 243 castings. I bought some heads off a '05 GTO and they had D shaped exhaust ports from what I could tell. The only difference between the two heads, which has already been mentioned, is the lighter valves on the heads that came off a Z06. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...
