Talking First time in a fast car on the strip

This weekend it finally happened. I got to drive my uncles drag car (runs low 12s high 11s) after making a wise *** comment to the track manager (my boss I work at a drag strip). The comment was something along the lines of its not that hard to pick up a car fast (as a joke) when someone just got in a car and ran it fairly good. So he said prove it then. Called up my uncle and I got to run his car yesterday. the car is a 65 Malibu with a 383 and a 2 speed transmision his estimate is 500 hp Here are the results

RT .121
60 1.82
1/8 8.282
mph 83.804
1/4 13.061
mph 93.639

I got in the burout box and engaged the line lock and just let it sit there for about 15 seconds at about 5 grand and it just sat there straight as an arrow. This was done with a foot brake and just flooring it at the end of the second yellow instead of getting the rpms up. I also let off at about the 1000ft because I saw the shift light come on which I was told after wards always happens but I didnt know that.

Give me a 2 more trys and Im sure Ill be at his normal times.

I let off right before the finish line. Did you read anything besides the times?

He only gained 10mph from the 1/8 to the end of the 1/4. It should be 20mph+. He probably let off before the end.

My car picks up 27mph in the last 1/8th.

8.28 @ 83 in the 1/8 on a 1.82 60' is low 12s/high 11s?

look at my time in sig. i ran 7.88 @ 87 that run...resulted in a 12.3, almost 12.4.

i think you are overestimating that particular vehicle.

ahhh who gives a crap, if it sounded fast and felt fast to you thats all that matters

you enjoyed it and didnt wreck it so im glad you had fun.

but i dont think a low 12 sec "drag car" is all that fast for being a "drag car"

but who am i to talk, i drive a low 13 sec firebird that people mistake for a v6 firebird half the time

I watched it run 2 back to back 11.9s earlier in the day and one 12.2 then another 11.9.

Congrats on your 1st runs. Now with practice you should run what the owner runs. Practice is the key.

That was my point, If you let off in the end the 1/8th time isn't going to get you in the 12's or 11's. A stock car (LS1) should be low 80's in the 1/8t

I dont see 8.28 in the 1/8 getting high 11's unless you have some type of power adder aftyer the 1/8. 8.2x should be good for mid to high 12's.

Yes first time ever in a car that doesnt do a 18 like my car did when I raced it. The fastest car Ive ever driven before this was a stock LT1 Z28.

If I remember correctly I think I saw a 1.5 or something like that. Now that I think about it I must not of had it all the way tot he floor because of that 60 ft time. Oh well it was still fun give me 2 more times and Ill be in it the whole time.

And the details that I know about the car are now in the first post. Its a 65 Malibu with a 383 with about 500hp and a 2 speed transmission.
