Default LT1 Overheating with A/C

Hi Folks
It was hot today (94 degrees) and my 97 overheated. Here is the part that is weird, w/o a/c, it sits around 210+ - put the a/c on it climb to 250 independence of speed. Doing 60 mph (so fans are not in play) it does not cool down - shut off the a/c and it drops to just a little over 210. Is this normal or should be looking at some thing?
thanks
Bill

flush the radiator, swap in a 160 stat, maybe install a manual fan switch, get ahold of somekind of tuning to turn the fans on earlier, could be the radiator(i orderd one off ebay for 100.00 shipped new before)

a couple things i did on my old lt1

Hi Folks
I have a 160 stat, programmed to turn on early but once you go above 40 mph, the fans will not come. I will flush the radiator and try that but the engine does get hot. If I want to cool it faster, open the windows, turn on the heat high, and it drops fast. Then I put the a/c on again but that suck when you are driving.
Thanks
Bill

do you have a check engine light by any chance? Could be Fan relays 2 and 3, they control the higher speeds. just a thought. try swapping those relays with the air pump relay(which is the same) and the fog light relay(i think its the same?)

Make sure you have enough freeon in the system. If it's low it will cause it to over heat (read that in the chilten book) cause mine was doing the same.

Yea, that sounds wierd. The fans actually should be off at high speeds, it impedes the air flow through the Radiator, that is from the book. I have my AC out, and I run at 190 deg. And I still blew a Head Gasket somehow.... I think the owner before me had a problem with it, and tried some of the quick fix **** in it.

when the ac is on it's normal for it to jump from 15-40 degree's. it depends on the air temp.humidity and your speed. soon as you turn your ac on and the temp rises a little, the second fan should kick on. thats actually what the second fan is for. go drive a 350 iroc with and turn the ac on. those thing run real hot. i would let the car idle with the ac on and check to see if the second fan kicks on. if it doesn't check your relay. a lot of times when people put headers on they break the fan switch in the driver side head or melt the wire that goes to it. so make sure you check that also. a 160 state and fan temp tuning is the best thing you can do to your car if you drive in warm weather. my car used to be at 210-255 all the time. now it runs 170 to 210 with the a/c on.
