Default Trans am Ram air hood help

I'm looking to buy a ram air hood for my 98 Trans am. Can anyone help with the best hood to buy? Is it worth the extra money to purchase the functional ram air box? Thanks

Their are a lot of different hoods for the 4th gen TA's. I'd just do some research on which one you like the looks of best and then find out about durability of the hoods your looking at, for example a lot of people like the look of the Mecham hoods but the quality of them is terrible. I'd suggest looking into WS6, WS9, WS9 Outlaw, VFN 4" WS6, their's also a Mecham designed hood that's going to be coming out soon by a different builder that is suppost to be much better quality. Some guys also like hoods such as Firehawk and Raptor. It's a personal decision.

I would suggest ASCD or VFN for aftermarket; VFN being the most identical to the OEM shape. If you want an OEM try Ebay or the For Sale section.
I also have the WS9 hood which I bought from U.S. Exotics. Identical appearance of the OEM WS6 scoops with the addition of Fire Hawk heat extractors. Simply bad ***. Unfortunately, they are no longer made. They will appear on Ebay every so often and occasionally in the For Sale section.
As far as the ram air box, your current set-up is already "functional", if it even functions to serve as a purpose at all. The only difference between a WS6 and non-WS6 ram air box is the opening. The WS6 air box has a larger "gap" than the non-WS6 air box. You can pick one up for $70.00 from www.GMpartsdirect.com. But, before you do that I would first buy a lid. A lid will do more performance wise than the WS6 air box.
