Default Oil pressure changes?

For the first time last night, I was running a Mustang for like three runs from 2nd gear to fifth when I observed the following...

Coolant temp was low, car was running good, but the oil pressure needle (stock gauge), which had never moved below the middle before, now moved RIGHT on the marker on the middle... Maybe a little to its left.

I thought, "Great, oil line somewhere burst/blew off/fell off, oil leak, etc." By the time I moved down some blocks to pull over (~3-4 minutes), I noticed it was back to normal (to the right of the center marker, engine idling). I got my flashlight, looked under the car, checked the oil, checked my scavenger pump, etc. Oil was at the right level, nothing was broken, nothing had oil anywhere, dipstick hadn't moved at all... I couldn't find any explanation!

Is this normal for turbo'd LS1's? Does oil pressure drop a bit under some hard runs?

I'd suspect that your oil temp went way up durring the runs.

Yup. And that is normal. This is why I run a little extra oil in the system.

Ahh... Cool.

I do run extra oil... significantly above the marked area... I just really freaked out because I hadn't noticed before... I immediately looked on the rear-view mirror for a "James Bond" oil slick, expecting the worst... Then I couldn't explain it when I checked the oil... Cool. Thanks guys.

If you run the oil high enough, you could cause it to foam from the crank whipping through it and that will drop oil psi too.
