Hi,
I have an 98 LS1 I am using in a swap project I am working on, but am using a bad block for the mock up so not to damage the good engine with welding and grinding around it.

I have pulled the heads and cleaned the piston tops off and drained all the coolant and oil, I plan on changing heads before it goes into the vehicle and have built a tubular stand to display the motor and t56 in my pool room till I need them. The motor ran great and compression was good on all the cylinders when I pulled the heads.

The questions I have are:
I am going to set the heads down on the deck but not fully bolt them
down, should I wipe some oil in the cylinder walls and make a few
cycles with the motor

Or should I go a few steps more and finish pulling the rest of the motor
apart and have the block cleaned professionally

The motor was swapped to regular antifreeze at some point, (look to be
a clean swap) any pros or cons from one to the other?
