05-06 stang beat down seconded
I just over the weekend picked up my red 99 SS M6. I was pulling out of my buddies sub onto a 5 lane highway (m59) and this kid pulls up next to me in an 05-06 GT and wants to run em'. i wasn't going to but its hard to back out of an almost gurantee kill. Light turns green and i gotta obviously granny it outta the whole to keep them from spinning by 5200 in first gear i had a nose on him, grabbed second and had him by a car and a half by 5500 in second. half way through third i had 2 lengths easy on him and shut it down around what had to be 75. I'm pretty much boner stock with factory SLP exhaust. I also did the usual free mods (whisper lid and maf screen removal). He was at a very distinct disadvantage though. He was driving and mustang.
p.s. how do i insert pics

i doubt that they will take a step back from the previous generation cars. espescially since a huge portion of there customer base will be previous 4th gen owners who are used to 310 horse "under-rated" cars.

There no need to defend the Mustang's death against an LS1, the LS1 is the faster vehicle.
However, that doesn't mean the Mustang is a "piece of crap" by any means. Where else can you get a 300HP RWD Muscle car for $24K?? The F-Body is all gone, so thats out of the picture. The Mustang is still a good value and a fast car, just not as fast as an LS1 F-Body

New GTs do make me drool too what a pretty car.
Good story and nice kills those GTs are no slouch. They so should have had a 6 spd though.

Yea, the Mustang is still alive due to a large part of women buying them. So you guys feel a car made in 2005-06 that only comes within 80% of a rival produced in 1998 is a good thing? Weak, and I drive a Mustang. 6 speed or not, a 5.4 with 340hp should have been the entry level GT.

sense. Ford is already over build capacity with the current model.
Sales certainly aren't suffering as a result of the 3V 4.6L. It would
just cost more to manufacture with the 5.4L and profit margins would
be that much less.

All the car needs is a blower and wala! 500hp. I love the new styled stangs. I do hope the new camaro comes with the corvette motor for 400hp tho, it would be sheer idiocy to do otherwise, finally ford would be close to even with GM and who wants that?

I think Unit is right but a 6spd couldn't have been too much more work and really improved a great car.

In other words, they do VERY well with a handicap and dont seem to care about having the smaller engine.
Yeah the 4.6L does well for it's size. But hell so does my 2.0L WRX motor.. Doesn't mean I still wouldn't rather have the 2.5L STi motor.
It atleast should have been an option IMHO.

You guys are missing a VERY LARGE PART of this picture. What if Ford HAD put a 5.4L in the new mustang GT and rated the bugger at 375 bhp? What then? I'll tell you, GM would never consider the 5.3, they would put in an LS2 (of which there is no plan to do so right now officially). THen what? Then Ford would have been outclassed. The mustang is slated to be redesigned in 09. FOr once Ford plans to rape GM and 1-2 years after GM's 5.3 "slightly faster" than the 4.6 mustang comes out, FOrd is going to spit out a 5.4L re-designed car and GM will be kissing *** for the next 2-4 years.
Thats just a guess, but its how I think Ford COULD be stacking the deck in their favor...
