Here in the states us F-body owners fight tooth and nail against the growing import crowd. American cars are crap, unreliable, use old technology, etc. is we hear all day everyday. Seems like the whole world is against us. Yet I see there is a following overseas (!) So my question to all you internatiol members:
1) What attracted you to the F-body?
2) how is your car generally recieved in your area? What do folks say about them etc...
Keep on representing!

This is my Tenth American car and the sound of the V8 is what I love about American cars.
What attracted me to the 99 Z28 is I get a powerful well equiped car that I can used everyday. It's cheap to buy cheap to insure cheap for parts and almost nothing can live with it in the UK. Not many cars in my price range have air, abs, lsd, asr, t/tops, leather and 320hp :hail:
People still think of American cars as gas gusslers over here! When I tell them I get 25-30mpg on a long journey they are gob smacked that a 5.7 litre car does that when there 1.8 only gets 35mpg!
They are scared to buy big V8 cars in the UK!
Apart from a few thousand dedicated American car Fanatics

I saw a picture back in a magazine in 97 it was an advert for camaro, & i thought that car looks shit hot!(didn't mention power) till i saw an ad for a 98 Z28! 305hp & went to have a look in a dealership to check it out myself, they had 2 silver t-top & a green vert v6's & a silver vette! tou would've had to peel my face from the showroom window & shove my tongue back in my mouth!
from then on i decided i wanted that car till i found out about the SS & wanted that more, but i also wanted a car that was different & nobody else was driving because everyone was creaming their pants over suberu's,evo's & claiming they were the fastest thing on the road blah, blah blaH the only thing that can touch my imprezza is a bike! BS!

I have the 2002 WS6 auto, convertible. Triple black,
I like it for it's aggressive front end.
I like all the horses under the hood,
I believe it is still standard, until someone can tell me, or show me different.
I like it because it is a "one-off", the paint work is super smooth, and a beautifully shaped body, she has all the curves to match any top supermodel. I don't now think there is another in th U.K.
Like previous postings, 30 mpg at 60 - 65 mph isn't difficult.
I can sit in the inside lane, just ticking over on cruise, I feel I don't have to blast it everywhere, I can just tick along, and enjoy the envious looks. Other drivers know, from the 4 missile launchers, comming out of the back end, coupled with the WS6 hood, the huge 275 x 40 x 17's that this looks like it will kick ass, so I don't pick up on too many races.
Saying that, I picked up a 3.2 Alfa a few weeks ago, they are no competition, they fade away at about 145, this seems to be their top end. It takes them ages to get there aswell, just another game.
Now the summer is here, the top is down every day I use it, I clocked up 12000 miles in the previous 12 months, and nothing dropped off or broke, oh! tell a lie, the small black triangle on the drivers side came loose, not off, I re-glued it in position with some contact adheasive.
Apart from that it has been very reliable,

In my part of the world we have lots of American cars I love power rear wheel drive
And lots of wheel spin and grumbling sound of the push-road engine.
Interchangeable parts and cheap and easy to work on.
My father says that when the japans cars arrived hear every body was laughing how small
And un-safe they where.
My father still drives a v8 and so do I and I will bass it to my son.

Long live American Muscle!
they sound good, they feel good, theres just no comparison with imports... sure they give a headache sometimes but its always worth it...

1) What attracted you to the F-body?
Looks, performance, image, sound, history and stutus.
Although a rather special 1977 Trans Am SE does spring to mind also - "breaker breaker Mr Bandit" :D
But I like Mustangs also and would happily own one, but Fbody's are my preferred choice.
2) how is your car generally recieved in your area? What do folks say about them etc...
99% of people here don't even know what a Camaro is let alone Fbody. And certainly don't recognise one.
Also the general opinion in the UK is all American cars are 18 feet wide, wobble, have no brakes and do 2 mpg. - I like to laugh at such people
I love the exclusivity, price and character of American Muscle. And although I love British performance cars such as TVR's from now on you'll find an American performance car sitting in my garage.
Plus I can't stand German or Japanese performance cars. Far too mass produced, dull and soleless.
