Default best cam for the street?

what cam would be good for a DD street car...soo im thinkin midrange power and lots of torque because ill never see the track that much mainly just street races?? i was told i would be faster on the street with a 220-232 range??

i was looking at the TSP 235/238 cam and realized it is useless for what i want...am i wrong is it what i want ??

Best all around street cam is in the 224/228 range anything more and you're relinquishing low-midrange for upper rpm power.
You do not need big to make street killer combos, you need the right SCR/DCR motor combo.
BTW DD is a relative terms, some like a eye watering overlap monster and some like nervous high lift Stealth. It up to you and your taste.
To make it easy for you, if you are going cam only, the get a cam that makes a good 8.5 DCR with the stock compression, with that in mind the highest Duration that will achieve that. Then it is just a matter of choosing the lifts you are comfy with (LOBE choice). There is your good street cam. (no sticky tires, super high stall etc...)

Get something in the 230 range, lift under 0.600. That should provide you with good hp, pretty good midrange and not kill low end. Also, keeping the lift reasonable will prevent having to change springs as often.

I had the same goals and got the MTI X1.

400 rwhp will be easy with heads, even more so if you're a 6 speed. The bigger the duration and tigher the lobe separation, generally, the meaner the cam sounds.

Agreed.

Sometimes, too much emphasis can be placed on a cam's duration for desired power. With a great set of heads... a tame cam, with the right supporting bolt on's, and tune, could see the numbers that most people are looking for on the street (without sacrificing driveability, which is always a plus).

But if you're looking for that lope though, and want to see those horrific stares everytime you pull up at a stoplight, by all means then... go for it!

I've got the X1 and think it sounds pretty mean. But I don't have much experience with other cams... so I guess its all relative. I'm adding the MTI S2e heads in another couple of weeks and I'm expecting 425 rwhp through the 12 bolt moser, ~ 500 at the crank. And this is my daily driver. Been running the X1 for about 2.5 years now and still love it.

I'm running the 228 0.588 112+1 (XER lobe) and its definitely streetable with a good tune regardless of how you define streetable. Plenty of low-midrange
power. Very noticeable lope.

Jack and crap. You don't want to run the stock valvetrain parts with an aftermarket/bigger than stock cam.

Yep, if you change cam, change springs. Stock springs were built for low lift stock cams. Add an aftermarket cam and no springs, and you're running on borrowed time - and not very much of it. Best case scenario, you break one and just replace springs. Worst case, you break one and drop a valve, destroy a piston and spend $$$ rebuilding the bottom end.

228/228 tsp cam. Best of both worlds. You'll get power everywhere and be very streetable.
