Default are MT 275/40R17's big enough

I have 17" Z06 wheels on my car right now.. and what i was wondering was if 275's are going to be wide enough? when it's all said and done I would like the car to be a mid 10 second car, and I dont know if these tires are capable of holding that? A buddy of mind just bought new wheels and tires and he's running 315's out the back. Should I sell my z06 rims and get a bigger rim so that i can also fit a bigger tire, or should this tire be ok for me and stick well enough? the car will be used primarily as a drag car. Thanks! Also, are the Mickey Thompsons a good drag radial?

With your current power and ET's they'll be fine for you. My stock SLP 345HP car with just 255/50/16 MT DR's dropped 3 tenths off my best ET with street tires. The 255's hook awesomely. Actual tread contact patch was a little less than 1/2" compared to my stock 275 Goodyears. If you want a mid 10 second car you'll want to get rid of the 17's and drop down to some 15's with slicks most likely. The taller sidewall helps transfer the power better than the short sidewall of the 17's.

when your not running a large sidewall, the width or the tire isnt going to matter too much... with the small sidewalls you just cant get the grip or say a 60 series tire... you wanna go quick, go with a 15 like ^he said

MT's are the stickiest tires but wear real quick. Nittos are the worst for traction but last the longest. BFG's are middle of the road. I see Dunlop has a drag radial now too. I don't know how that stacks up.

I'm running 275/40/17 MT DR's. They're definitely good for 600+rwhp and mid 10's...no
problem.
