5th Gear Craziness
Just got my 99 SS M6. Took it on open road to test everything and tried to get thru all the shift gates (at this point 5th). When I try shifting into 5th the shifter starts acting like it possessed (shaking erratically), grinds (clutch in) and won't go in (at about 70mph and 4500 rpms). All other gears work fine without any issues. Car has 84K, just received it via shipper from a South Florida dealer, so don't have much history other than what Carfax.
Any ideas and or solutions?

Sounds like a transmission overhaul. At least the dealer said they'll stand behind and pay any shop I take it to get her fixed. Of course seeing is believing...

It looks like I'm not the only one with a problem shifting into 5th gear. When I go to shift into 5th it grinds (clutch in) and then goes into gear. If I make a nice easy "granny" shift into 5th there's no problems, but I can't properly **** into 5th without it grinding. It doesn't pop out of gear or anything like that, but the bad part is I'm assuming I'm going to have to pull the tranny to fix this...boo! I'm also assuming there's a problem with the syncro, does that sound right?

Bad,
You're right it was a E-bay buy and I know I should've hired a mechanic since Palm Beach is like 11 hours one-way from where I'm at in Florida. Not only was this found the salesman was getting it on the shipping truck and decided to checkthe AC, hot. They took 10 days, but fixed it. And I personally talked to the owner and he's already authorized the transmission tear down ($900), they're paying direct. So, in a nutshell either I really got lucky or there's still people who believe a man's word is just as good as a gurantee. He also told me I have 2 months or 2000 miles warranty against anything. I suspect someone in the used car management and or service folks are in for a arss eating.

Where in Florida are you? 11 hours? Hell we lived in West Palm Beach and it was 5 hours to Jacksonville (towing 15k lbs), from Palm Beach to Ft. Myers was 2.5-3 hours, from Palm Beach to Jacksonville to Alabama was under 11 hours... Key West was something like 4 hours (its been years though).
Glad to hear the dealer is paying for it and hopefully everything works out well, care naming the dealer by any chance?

Just East of Pensacola, it takes damn near three hours just to get to I-75, then all the driving fun begins with the Northerners coming down to Mickeyland

Red,
That's cool that their paying for the transmission tear down. Does $900 cover everything? Because $900 just to pull apart the transmission seems like $400+ too much. But that's cool that you don't have to pay.
