i've noticed alot of people, particularly with imports, rev their engines right before they shut the car off, an was wonderin if that really does anything for the health and well-being of ur engine? or do they just do it coz they think it sounds cool?
i know the crew chiefs that work on the f-15s rev up the engines right before they shut them down as well...but i just figured they do that since it looks fun. is that a practice that shuld be done with all engines?

No offense to the others, but that seems to lean toward rice for me. It's like a big "Hey look at me!". The deep, throaty burble of the V8 rolling in will get all the attention you need at idle. That being said I have been know to rev the engine, but not right before shutdown (as other stated, I like the sound). There's a difference between doing it for yourself and trying to impress others.
As far as benefits, I have heard just the opposite, i.e. if you are running a bit rich, you are just rinsing the cylinders with gas right before you shut down. In reality, it probably won't make any kind of difference either way, but I can't see how it would be helpful.

when we do it, it is ok because we got the badass muscle cars and it is our right to make people hear what we got under the hood. But it is rice for imports because they got nothing

i hate it when people do it with the rice grinders (fing broke a$% 4 banger
sh!t on wheels) but if you are shutting it off and starting it back up , like say you run into a store to get smokes, it will coat everything with oil and makes startup easy on motor.

Don't rev it up to 6k then shut it off before it goes back down to idle. The oil pump shuts off when you turn the car off.
I rev the car up all the time at work in the garage. Sounds badass in there. I actually scared a little kid when he was walking by in the garage.

man you can't even rev your car meaninglessly without being labled as rice? The mustang guys will be crushed.

If you have to ask....
The oil pump shuts off when you turn the car off.
I'd love to hear the explanation on how that works.

I made a kid cry once. Sure he was only two years old, but his dad revved his GTP at me so I had to let him hear it. Of course at the time I was running open headers. After I took it to 4500 rpm's a couple times, the kid wouldnt go near my car. Man, I felt like shit for the kid, but damn, it was great.

God dont you know anything about the LS1. When you turn the car off the crank disengauges from the oil pump and transforms into Optimus Prime to gaurd you car from the evil decepticons while your away.

Exactly, why would you want to rev it before shutting it off, your next start up will scoring the cylinders, not worth it to me. If you going to do that at least let it idle down for about 10-20sec to build back up.
This also applys to those guys that romp on the car right after startup, the average small block takes about 15min of average driving to "warm" not read warm on the gauge but for the entire block to have a uniform temp.

how is this so?

the fuel instant freezes and turns to razor sharp icicles, which will score the sleeve. DUH! :eyes:
Reminds me of when you're riding a 125 at WOT and you can feel it start to seize so you hit the killswitch and gas it to cool off the piston :jest:

lol, i guess i see the logic now... when the fuel is pressurized to 20 zillion kilotons of pressure, the fuel evaporitizes into freezing ice particles....

Once I went out to my car to get some stuff, and there were kids sitting in my driveway infront of my car. they went to move and I said " no, its okay, Im not going anywhere " so they stayed. I went back in, then had to leave so I went out to my car, fired it up with the open borla, and the 3, 6-7 year old girls jumped up about 3 feet in the air, and screamed lol..
