Default clutch not broke in yet!?!?!?!?!

hey guys. i have a 99 ss m6(aftermarket hurst shifter) and have a fully rebuilt tranny with a stg 2 spec c clutch with a new master and slave cylinder. i put new snycros in the car when i got it too with syncro mesh. my question is my clutch vibrates or chatters like crazy. i have over 5k miles on the clutch and it still chatters. now i have heard that the spce c clutches take alil to break in, but i have a friend with 3k miles on his and it is smooth now. do i have a f'ed up one or what? help please!!

my centerforce only chattered for about 50 miles...5k seems a little bit excessive.

There isn't anything wrong with your clutch, SPEC's just chatter like crazy. I had 2 SPEC clutches and neither one was worth a damn. I now will only run either an LS7 clutch or a LUK Pro Gold clutch in my car.

one thing i noticed about my last spec clutch(stage 3) is a couple thousand miles after break in i was having the same problems as you and didnt know what to do so one day i lost my temper and just reved the motor up and dumped the clutch a few times and i swear the damn thing got better. even clutch pedal feel improved.

after about 35000 miles with that clutch i wore it down to the metal and now im running a stage 4. so far ive had good luck with spec so i didnt wanta change but maybe next time ill get one of those textralia ones.

you assume all specs are bad.my spec 3 lasted over 40,000 miles on a cam/N20 car with no problems and now with my turbo 383 my spec 5 is holding fine so far.dont jump to conclusions just because some people post they didnt like them.theres 1 simple rule when i comes to spec clutches.....DONT RIDE THEM...and theyll last.theres quite a few big hp guys in the N20/FI sections running specs besides me with no problems at all.

I also have a spec 2, and it just went out after 8k miles and it shook so bad that I had to tighten the torque arm down all the time. So now I just got a LS7 and hopefully all will be well.

from what I have gathere on these boards...SPEC= Spring Pop and Extra Chatter

But then again..centerforce doesnt have the best rep...but the newer design 12 inch is supposed to be good...I am hoping.

All I know is that if my clutch would have continued chattering the way it did for the first 50 miles...which wasnt even that excessive when it did....I would have pulled the damn thing by 5k. I wouldnt be able to stand the annoyance and not being able to slip the clutch slightly on takeoff.

my break in process was just driving it. didnt rag on it at all. the car should have been broke in by now. my torque arm isnt loose or anythin like that. car runs fine. just the clutch chatters so bad.

i have had 2 spec stage 2 clutches also, and i had some chatter, but nothing too insane. they both work really well for me though. a lot of ppl dont like them but i think its because nobody breaks them in right. i broke them in right and had nothing but good strong hookup.

Usually a clutch break in consists of 500 city miles with no WOT or hard shifts.

Some friction materials from various companies require no break in. I think textralia is one of them. Im not sure about the spec. But mine recommended the above.
