View Full Version : How to tell if a Honda's fast!!!

I've figured out how tell if a Honda is fast. "Fast" Hondas are called racecars and when you see a honda with one of these modifacations, you should stay away from it, because it probably has an alarm system that cost more than the car. I do not know if there are any honda people here, but these are just observations I've made.

1.) A Honda is a racecar if it is straight piped or has someother exhaust modification. Exhaust modification to these cars is refered to as "adding a Bumble Bee Kit" These add 5-6 HP nearly doubling the stock output of the engine.

2.) A Honda is a racecar if the power steering pump has been removed*. Power Steering uses HP and removing it can increase 1/4 mile times by nearly 10 seconds.
*Note-Honda made a car in the late 80's early 90's called the CRX, which stood for "civic racing"-power steering wasn't even an option

3.)A Honda is a racecar if it has a Seafoam green or other oddly colored "Body Kit." These reduce aerodynamic drag, However, they are left unpainted because the weight of the paint would slow the car down.

4.)A Honda is a racecar if it has been lowered. There are kits available to do this, but cutting the springs is popular because it also reduces weight

5.)A Honda is a racecar if it has a "Wing" or other type of device to add rear downforce. This is a common mistake as most people who have these do not know that they have a car with front wheel drive. There are a few out there who have a wing to keep the trunk closed because thier trunk latch is broken.

6.) A Honda is a racecar if it has a turbocharger or supercharger. Most people think that this is to increase Horsepower. The truth is, Hondas get turboed to increase the exhaust flow out the back. Exhaust Systems with turbos are different from your standard "Bumble Bee" kit, as they are designed to use the pressurized exhaust to propel the vehicle.

7.) With these modifications, I've seen Hondas with 300 HP and Almost 9 ft/lbs of torque

Also be aware of the Hondas with the " Type R" badge on the trunk lid. This badge adds nearly 12.5 hp all by its self. Another thing to look for is the upgraded wheels. Hondas come factory with a set of 10" wheels, but If you see one with 12" wheels watch out, especialy if they are clean. The number one tell all of a honda race car, is the 1989 Honda with a 2400 dollar set of wheels with paint peeling off the hood. The peeling paint is a result of speed.

just for future knowledge, some of the faster street driven (and some are daily driven) hondas are faster than some of the faster cars here.

So are you saying some people are "compensating" by making fun of Hondas?

Very well put.

And those truly "fast" Honduhs that are faster than some of the faster cars on here, are about as common as a Chicago Cubs World Series Championship.

No shit dude I definetly respect a Honda built right. It takes mroe to get a shitty civic to run 12's than it does a z28, thats for sure. props to those who do it right.

My reply was to the original poster, as im not really sure if the first post in this thread is "news" or something. the post, to me, seemed like " hey in case you guys never heard of a ricer before..." Seems like the ricer topic has been beaten to death...

Sorry, just thought it was funny as I copied it from another forum. I didn't realize there was such support for imports on this site. I'll keep to myself from now on!

4 years at a track, and I have yet to see a one actually run 10's and not get trailered in.

The closest one got to a mid 11, then cerimoniously left his bottom end all over the 1/8 mile marker on his 3rd run. All of this after bragging how much money he had spent on the motor. . . :eyes:

Guess there must be some true steet driven 4 bangers, I have yet to see one at the track.

There are a couple here in Albuq.

One integra made damn near 700 whp ( SAE, of course). I think that it ended up going low ( ~11.10's or so ) 11's @~135. Full "street trim ( full interior, sub, etc. etc.)." the car ran strong as shit, never trailored. sadly, it was stolen and stripped.
There's a crx that runs high 10's @ ~ 142 here ( has been mid 9's at sea level). that COULD be driven in, but is trailored in.
good friend of mine has an DIY'd turbo integra ( stock bottom-end, hondata, not too many "power" mods) that runs 12.5's all day.
you guys might say that is not impressive, but i am at an elevation where stock ls1's run 14.8-13.9's(albuquerque, nm).
I can respect any car that has the time, work, and mandatory blood, sweat, and tears into it; be it an import or a domestic.
now ricers, those kids are another story...

That looks pretty good with the slicks on the correct end.

N/A FWD econo cars aren't my idea of the best way to go fast.

i have nothing against hondas, just ricers.. ive seen some nice hondas as well as some horrific ones..

if a cars fast then i don't care what make and model it is,aslong as it doesnt look like total ass

just remember there is a major difference between ricers and tuners..

a buddy of mine has a delsol that would put most fbody owners to shame... its a low 12sec del sol (JDM h22 motor)

u forgot about taking the hubcaps off for weight reduction..that also makes them a racecar, and it also makes it look like they have black rims.. and stripping the paint off the hood and adding some primer makes it a racecar

those ricers always crack me up, everytime they drive by me they rev up and try to show off, and i just look at them confused

ricers have this fascinating ability to make a lot of noise without going anywhere.

The 4-Bangers that you have to watch out for are the DSMs. I go to WIR a lot and there is always a handful of them running bottom 12s and 11s that are driven to the track and back. I have been through 6 of them personally and I love those cars. Easy to make fast, and regardless of what anyone says they are reliable when cared for properly. People say they break too much because dumb shits crank the boost without the proper fuel to match it, or of course because of speed shifting and missing gears.
