Default Passenger t-top took flight!!

WTF!! I just got home from driving to work - everything was fine, hadn't taken my t-tops off since earlier in the day, and all of a sudden I heard a sucktion cup type sound and my T-Top was gone on the passenger side! I grabbed a hold of the driver side in case, but it was fine.... I just bought the car a month ago, and that sides KEY lock was kind of screwy would have to play with it to get the key in, but otherwise the handle locked tight.... I got a warranty w/ the car, would that be covered? WHo should I go to about this?? Thanks guys!

actually somewhat common, but has never happened to me. Did you grab what was left of the ttop so that if you have to replace it, you can switch the locks to be the same? It sometimes happens when it is not locked, but usually when one forgets to latch it.

wow, welcome to the club. Not a month and a half after getting mine, my little sister didnt lock the passenger side t top, it was night time so i couldnt tell. 1 am , comin home from a sister town... SHWOOP!!! gone. shattered all over. It hurts... i was all over the net that night and ebay searching for a replacement. Fortunately for me, i found a place that is only 40 minutes away in DeKalb, IL. and was able to replace the top with a brand new one next day. Even changed out my lock on it no sweat.

www.corvettettops.com

you can get them new or rebuilt.

I have seen it happen, but not to my TA, there was a white LS1 camaro in front of me, and all of the sudden I see the t-top go for a short flight and land on the left hand shoulder it was all gone, did you know that you can order the t-tops from the factory without tint? at least thats what my friend (who is one of the back counter guys at a chevy dealer) told me. weird

I talked to the dealership today and they asked me to call my insurance and warranty people so I'll be doing that tomorrow... he said he'd hook me up with a cheap one if they didn't cover it under warranty... *sigh* It all happened right when it turned 6/6/6 OH NO!!!

hahaha

Well called all three, dealership, insurance, and warranty they all said it was not covered, but dealership asked me to give them a call back after I got a response from the insurance/warranty and he would try to work something out with me - he said he might be able to get me a used one... if he offers me one, what is the maximum price I should pay for it? Or should I make him pay it? Thanks

Sorry to hear about that. I am glad that I haven't had this happen to me, and I hope to never go through that, until I have a spare set. Good luck.

Same thing happened to my driver's side ... it was latched down tight but not locked. Rolled up my window going about 60 mph and the thing just flew off. Luckily I found one on ebay quickly here in KS.

I drove mine around today and realized they weren't locked. My camaro has t-tops that came off another car, so I'm unable to lock those down. After 4 months of daily driving they haven't blown off (yet, knock on wood)

i've driven mine for 2 years with them unlocked, but latched.

Plus, the key lock has nothing at all to do with how the panel stays on the car. All the key lock does is basically jam the handle so you can't unlatch it.

As for them flying off when they're latched. Umm. I dunno if mine are different from everyone else's, but i've got two 1/4 inch metal bars that stick about 2 inches or so into the frame of the car. Don't think the panel is going anywhere.

Although I DID leave the driver's side unlatched one time, started driving. I just got on the highway and noticed a crapload of wind noise. I look up and there's the latch handle wide open. I about filled my shorts. I'm just glad it didn't go anywhere before i had a chance to reach up and latch it.
