ok well if i were u i would go to a local shop and have them hook it up to a machine, you wanna get that dexcool out of there. that **** will hurt more than it will help you, it will eat gaskets and clog up ports. i flushed mine out with a machine that works off of your water pump so it doenst put any more pressure on your system. i flushed about 20-30 gallons of water through it to make sure all the dex is out, u dont wanna mix it. and then i flushed 10 gallons of regular green stuff through it. and then filled it up. not it runs good and there is no gunk in the radiator.

So your saying to get rid of the Dexcool all together. Once its flushed just use the Green stuff? Ive got no problem doing that but ive heard it was a big NO NO. Anyone else have any comments on this?

I've heard people say the green stuff is good and Dexcool is bad...and I've heard that Dexcool is good and green stuff is bad. Soooo....I really don't know which is best.

well i have seen, along with other mechanics that the dex will eat your gaskets up, clog up your coolant ports and lines in the radiator. it causes lower intake gasket leaks on the 3.1 and 3.4 motors for sure. i work at an express lube and everyone i see has done that, and im serious...everyone one that is over 40k miles leaks. on the other hand, my moms grand am i changed it out at 30k and its not even seeping. im just waiting for warranty to be up on my WS6 until i flush it out. go to your local shop if u dont wanna worry about flushing that much through yourself, we do it at my place for $60 not too bad, unless your gonna just wash it down your sewer drain....then i would say go for it yourself <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I've heard that with an aluminum block the dex is a must. My T/A has 55k mi with the orange stuff and has no leaking problems whatsoever. Just my $.02

I totaly forgot about installuniversity. That other link is good too. I havent decided yet if im going to swap out for the green stuff. I'll have to think about it. Whats the major difference anyway?

The green will also wear out your water pump, ruin hoses from the inside out and worse. Thats why if you use it it voids the warranty.

you bring up a good point about the blocks and whatnot, and i have been thinking about it... some other models seem to be alright with the dex in there, but a lot still seem to clog up. if it were me i think i would just flush out the dex every 50k just to prevent possible problems...with the different motor it might not cause problems but just to be on the safe side i would flush to keep any possible "gunking" to a minimum <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

+64K miles on Dex with no problems (been changed once). It's what GM recommends. It's supposed to be better for our aluminum engines/radiator.

Personally I flush and refill the cooling systems on my personal cars once a year. My 99 S-10 only had 43000 miles on it when I bought it but it had major build up in the cooling system. I work at a car lot and every vehicle I've seen with dex cool has build up in the cooling system. Just flush it regularly and you shouldn't have a problem.

P.S. I think the build-up problem occurs when you mix the coolant with tap water instead of distilled water. Spend the extra $1 at your local grocery store and get a gallon of distilled water.

Yeah, I think im going to just stick with the orange that GM puts in the car. Just flush it ever 2 years or so. (Im **** about it)
