160' Thermo but still running around 210
Ok so I just put in a 160 degree thermo stat in and the fans are still programmed to come at 220+ Well once I start up my car, if i'm driving continously with no stopping my car will hover right about 160, If I do some stop and go, temp will start rising and go up to about 220+ fans will come on and then it will cool. There is no problem but when i had a 160 deg thermo before it stayed above 170 ALL THE TIME. NO QUESTIONS ASKED. So I thought that was weird. I have a brand new water pump, hoses, cap, and radiator. I know I don't have the correct amount of coolant in as we speak. Could this be why it's not staying as cool as it should? Enlighten me please!

not having the correct amount of coolant can make a difference considering the fact that you have air in your system, and the t-stat will open at 160* but to fully take advantage of that you need to have a tune and reprogram the fans, or put in a manual fan switch and turn em on when you please

there's nothing wrong with your car, what you described is perfectly normal (both my lt1s did the same with that thermo on stock tune).
Get a tune or fan switch to turn the fans on earlier if you want it cooler.
If for some reason a 160 deg thermo makes it run cool all the time that is the exception not the rule.

should be the same principle...I have my own homemade one that works fine, this is just more of a plug-n-play unit.

I wouldnt go lower than 180. On a cool summer night here in the dessert with my high speed fan on, my 160 stat and elec wp I can sit in the 160-170 range if I wanted. Having the fan switch has gave me so much more control over my temps.

Get a reprogam either way - if you use a toggle for the fans sometimes they will shut down too soon after parking it. Never had that problem myself but have heard of others that did, reprogram, no further problems.

definately put the right amount of coolant in... what the coolant does is circulate in the system and absorb the engine heat... actually water does that better than coolant so if it just needs a top up, try topping it up with pure water
