Default Soon to be a Vette owner... got some Q's...

Hello everyone, first of all COOL site and badd *** rides... like the tittle says im on the market for a 97-01 vette and about to sell my 03 mustang gt supercharged wich i have had tons of fun playing with vettes, but the time to get into a mayor proyect had come, i was going to get an 03 cobra and drop some $ on it but im using that money for school, the car i love after the mustang is the corvette so the choice i have is a c5 for now until i can afford a twin turbo terminator.

I dont know much about chevys and have questions:

How many hp the c5 ls1 has?

whats the difference between 97-98-99-01 interior and exterior?

Whats frc?

I'm looking at a 97 hatch back red and black rims, 63k miles 6spd, heads/cams, zo6 intake, l/t headers, catless x pipe, borla exhaust, cai, t/b, upgraded mass air, zo6 calipers and air ducts, they are asking $22k... is this a fair price?
How many rwhp will this combo make?

Thanks in advance.

The 97-00 C5 has 345hp, from 2001-2004 it has 350hp. The FRC is the fixed roof coupe, or the Z06 bodystyle. They also made this style in 99 and 00 but with the LS1 instead of the LS6.

From 97-99 the C5 came with the ugly "wagon wheels" on it, from 00-04 it got the much nicer looking wheels. A lot of 97-99 owners upgrade to those nicer wheels though, so that's always a nice bonus when you find one like that (I got lucky as mine came with the nicer rims in chrome too!)

There weren't a lot of major changes on the C5 during it's lifespan. The 97s and 98s are pretty similar for the most part, although active handling (AKA stability control) became optional late in the 98 model year. Heads up display became an option in 99.

As mentioned, 2001 saw a horsepower boost, as well as more torque. This was mostly due to the addition of the LS6 intake. It also got revised computer programming and different injectors that year.

The only exterior difference (other than the wheels) came about in 2000, when they eliminated the passenger side key hole.

Make the change man...you'll be glad you did. I made the change from a cobra to a vette....never looked back, except to see them in my mirror.

the wagon wheels are starting to grow on me a little, i guess cause the y2ks and the z06s are so popular.

It was an option that year, yes. Out of 9772 cars built for the 97 model year, 3094 came with Selective Real Time Damping. It's not the same system as Magnetic Selective Ride Control which came out in 2003 and was much more sophisticated.

Do you have more details on the heads and cam on the car you are looking at??
That way some of us could give you a more educated guess. With no help at all, I could say 400 rwhp to 480 rwhp. You run a big enough cam with the right heads, and exhaust with intake 500 + rwhp is possible. I did 473 rwhp 431 rwtq and my tune isn't 100% . There are a few things I can do. Should max at 480/435 rwhp/rwtq
Good luck, by the way, ask if the car has a dyno sheet, or ask to get her dyno'd to verify HP/TQ

have you driven the car yet?

I test drove a new cobra, and then my '99 C5 coupe and immediately fell in love with and bought the vette. I've since sold the '99 and upgraded to a C6.
the driving experience between the mustang and corvette can hardly be compared.

that's a top of the line price for that model, but if it's clean and runs good you won't be disappointed. based on the pic you've posted and the mods, the car looks like it's worth it to me.

the only difference I've noticed on early vs late model C5's is that 2000 and up didn't come with the wagon wheels, and they got rid of the exterior lock on the passenger side door.

keep in mind, LS1 engines aren't really considered 'broke in' till they get around 30k on the clock, and they love mods.

good luck!

the car is in Texas, im in California, i test drove a 2000 c5 last week and a 04 cobra, there is a world in difference, i liked both but its time for something diferent, i like that red one and i dont think 63k miles isn't that much for a 97, as for the price its not the best of the deals but i think the car its worth it and those black painted wagon rims make it look really mean! the car is on ebay and im about to get it.

Ok, I'm clear on what wagon wheels are now. My mom's car came with those, but she changed them to chrome Z06's. Looks much better now IMO.

That car was for sale on corvetteforum about 2 months back, if that's really the car you bought you can find some info on it over there. If I remember correctly it had quite a bit of work done to it.
