Default ball bearing turbos....justify the cost

been talking to some turbo folks around here about it...

is the +/- 500 dollar increase in price for BB turbos worth the money?

I've been told they aren't rebuidable and have to replace the entire CHRA assembly $$$

benefit of decreased spool time...

Opinions?

It all depends on what turbo you are looking to buy. Since you have a M6 it might help, if you had an Auto I would say save the money for something else.

Innovatives ball bearing CHRA are completely rebuildable and at a very reasonable price too. The turbo itself is not very cheap, but they have come down lately. A 76 through them is around $2300.

I'd personally save the money and just run a std bearing turbo, I'm sporting the DBB turbo I have because I got a really good deal on it.

I'm considering a pair of turbos anyhow...so the difference would be multiplied by a factor of 2.

The option does NOT out weigh the benifits. The turbo has to be rebuilt by the maker usually and not a local shop. Ive been told by most who sell them to not get the DBB opton unless you just have the extra $$$ laying around.

In the supra community the DBB vs the Std is only around 200rpm of spool. Same power outputs.

Save your money.

I just got off the phone w/ Precision Turbo, and they quoted me a retail price of $999 for a std bearing T-61 and $1199 for ball bearing, which is less of a difference than I expected. They said they've seen a spool difference of 600-800 rpm, but I've read elsewhere 200-300 rpm as stated above.
