Default Camshaft choice for STS

I am about to start installing a STS rear mount turbo system on my 04 GTO. Following advice on this board I have the ls1 hotcam which I really love the idle with its 112 lsa. But now that I am going with the forced induction I was wondering if the overlap of the cam would be a problem?

Thanks - Lanse

It is not an ideal cam, but things will work with the turbo. A wider LSA would be recommended.....but with that said I'm running a TR224 on a 112LSA. I have had no drivability issues with my STS and this cam (which I also have LT headers on....another "not recommended" for the STS). With the LT's and boost unfriendly cam I'm still putting down over 426RWHP and 438RWTQ (SAE uncorrected numbers w/ temp 80 degrees F and humidity over 90%). There's more power to be had....once I get the fuel tuning issues all sorted out.

BTW: I'm only running 5PSI of boost.

How much gain do you really see by changing cams with the STS? Would it not be easier to just turn up the boost a little more. Now if you were building a low compressions engine, then I would see the benefit of a turbo cam.

it all depends on what your shooting for. You could go cam and low boost to make say 500 hp and have your power band shifted around/possibly better spooling. Or just crank it up to 8psi. I think once a nice set of low compression heads are on (LQ9s) then a cam would complement the whole thing nicely. For a milder cam choice maybe a 224/230 on 115

i dont know who you've been talking to but the LT headers are not a problem on the STS. for the record an STS car with LT headers and 3inch exhaust with 5 psi is actually flowing more air than a stock system. boost is a measurement of back pressure if you have less back pressure you will show less boost but get the same amount of air , make sense?? it didnt to me at first but i finally got it through my head.

I have a sts kit and I am getting the 317 castings with the ls6 springs and a gt2-3 cam. I was told that this cam would make better power then the gt-7. I only have the t-60 turbo right now with mid lenths and a ls6 intake. I have 60lbs injectors and a racetronix fuel setup and a frontmount... I am planing on turn the boost up to 7-8lbs when i put all of this on. what do you guys think of this set up??

Sorry to hijack, but for the sake of reducing number of redundant posts:

how will 215.5/232.4, 0.599/0.578, 116.8LSA with LT's with the STS? I have some $$$ coming my way soon, and I'm seriously lookin at this System.

Long tubes would flow more, but the people at STS do recommend stock manifolds as they are less prone to exhaust leaks.

long tubes dont leak if you seal them properly, and ive talked with brandon at STS and they love LT headers. The STS system is based on a stock system , but like all good things they can , and they are, modified to produce better numbers.
i know because i actually have an STS system with LT headers, unlike yourself - PROCHARGER!!!!
