From what I heard is that the camaro in 2008 will be coming with a 5.3 v-8 with 300 hp. Now this just may be rumors which I am hoping but a camaro with 5 hp less then it was ten years ago is simply retarded . I pray gm atleast comes out with a 350 hp machine in a stock z-28 in 2008 because a 300 hp camaro is gonna be weak for the time and hell ten year old ls1's are gonna walk it probally.

Seeing as how the 4th Gens are most likely to weigh hundreds of pounds lighter than the new 5th Gen, they better be making some damn good power to make up for it.

not sure where thats from but sounds pretty final that its gonna have either 400hp ls2 or 405 hp 6.2 and an optional ls7 in a year or so to combat new gt500. its also target weight is 3600 lbs with the ls7 likely weighing 3500 and costing around 45K.

The 5.3 would just be an optional engine. It is rumored to have a high output V6 240-260 hp, standard V8 (like a 5.3) 300-320 hp, and an optional V8 350-400 hp. I expect there to be a release of a LS7 or the like a couple of years after the first are released.

I think a 5.3 would make a great RS.

Well you could have the base V-6, RS 5.3 V-8 325hp, Z28 6.0 V-8 400hp suspension set up for cornering, SS 6.2 V-8 425hp suspension set up for drag racing, ZL1 7.0 LS7 V-8 505hp street king, set up for both cornering and straight line. Of course most of this wont happen, but its nice to dream.

I like your thinking. It truly is too bad that it won't come to fruition. But, hey, we can all dream.

With GM, nothing is final until it actually hits the dealerships (and I can test drive it :) ).

5 different versions of 1 car?

base v6. mid level v8. big v8. and bigger v8, a v8 that isn't de-tuned..

the base v6 has been slightly rumored to be the 3.6 VVT engine in many cars right now.

well the camaro is supposed to save GM so it has to be versital not to mention its not too big of a deal there already making the engines so its not like there having to make 3 new engines for the car.

this is the basic layout of what i have read, i cant remember which mag but i think its MT, the only difference is your ZL-1 they have been calling the SS RS

all i know is i want an SS 425hp hopefuly about 3500lb it will be running with the best of them. but we better hope that they make the base C6 alittle more powerful or we wont see a 425 hp option engine.

Seeing as how the 4th Gens are most likely to weigh hundreds of pounds lighter than the new 5th Gen...

What makes you say that? All the numbers I've seen show it around 3600lbs loaded. Are you referring to the fact that it's coming from Holden and the Aussie safety rules normally result in very heavy cars?

I wouldn't be surprised if the 5.3 is the RS engine. They will most likely try to make it as fuel efficient as possible, but also have some balls when you floor it.

Basically I'm saying that seeing as how every new car coming out is far overweight, I wouldn't be surprised to see the 5th Gens be fatasses either. Granted, much of it is due to stricter safety regulations, but also because people are wanting all this electronic entertainment and luxury BS installed from the factory.

Christ, the new Cobras weigh over 4000 lbs, the GT's weigh 3600+ lbs, the GTO weighs 3800 lbs, and the upcoming Challenger is said to weigh over 4000 lbs. WTF is this crap. I remember when people used to bitch about 4th Gens being overweight... Hell they only weigh 3400-3500 lbs. Nowadays that'd be considered a lightweight.

It's sad honestly. Cars will be needing 400+ HP just to run the same times as the 350 HP LS1. An obvious example/s is the GTO (400 HP) and Charger SRT8 (425 HP): both those cars run high 12's/low 13's which is exactly what a stock, much-less-powerful LS1 runs. And on top of needing more power to run the same times, the bulky weight will be felt in the handling too. It sucks.

The More engine choices, the more sales. Options are always good. I sure as hell hope I can buy one and choose what I want. I mean if I want the big dog motor, dont make me buy heated leather, navigation and 20inch wheels. I want to put a check next to what i want!! :judge:

The engines that will be going in the camaro arent even in production yet. In 2009 whos gona want a LS2? LS3,LS8,LS9 are the 3 upcoming engines coming from GM a couple go to the maro and one goes to the new super vette.

I betcha everyones REALLY going overboard on the new car expectations. I doubt they would make more than 3 different engines which is one more than most of the other cars they make. I mean come on this is the company that produces two different front wheel drive v8 engines.

Different engine set-ups are more likely. There isn't anything wrong with them putting out only 2 engines.

Base - v6 240 hp
RS - HO v6 260 hp
Z28 - V8 320 hp
SS - HO V8 350 hp

If its hp is 400 and weighs as much as the GTO its fuel economy is going to drop to 16-22. The competition is only 300 hp, 400 hp is a LOT more.

400rwhp should be right for a 09-10 camaro(that and my last camaro had that). The mustangs should be pushing that by that time anyway.

Ill get a low end V8 if it costs less and add heads and cam for probably less then the high end model and probably lighter. Just hope they have optional T-tops.....<3 t-tops

320 horsepower for a car is a lot for a vehicle that is supposed to be priced ~25k, and 350 is also a lot of power. That's 20 and 50 hp more than the Mustang and the Charger has 340 hp.

The GTO has 400 and costs over $33k.

Imagine GM trying to sell a car to a 20 year old that has 400 hp that costs only $25k. Insurance companies would put the Camaro to the grave.

Thats why honestly i would never buy either, they are overwieght and underpowered. I can only live with one of those scenarios.

The GTO has 400 and costs over $33k.

It had a plug and play engines, the 33K was all of the standard options it had.

Insurance is nuts on cars with over 300 hp. I bought my car when I was 20, only when I hit 24 was my car payment less than my car. $297 for car $301-$305 for insurance. It dropped to $163 when it hit 7 years old. Imagine how many accidents are going to happen when 18-21 year old kids start racing them around.

Isn't the LS1 Corvette and the Ls1 Firebird tied as far as being the mostly likely to die at 4.3 and the LS1 Camaro taking in third at 4.1 (per thousand I believe)?

"The US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, based on many years of study, reckons the most dangerous cars in the US are the Camaro, the Corvette, the Firebird and the Mustang, with the Corvette worst of all. However, this is explained as being due to the sort of driver they attract, rather than any quality or flaw of the vehicle itself."

I mean first time buyers with little to no driving experience; nothing wrong with the car, and nothing wrong with the people. Just a lack of experience coupled with a car that can hit 162-172 mph (F-Body and Corvette respectively).

You have a car that is fast and a person who wants to go fast is going to buy it. When you go fast you have a higher chance of getting into a fatal accident. Again its not the car, other cars just don't go as fast as the F-Body and Corvette and are still affordable to buy by a young first time buying driver.

There isn't anything wrong with a 320-350 hp car, it's way ahead of the competition as far as price and vehicle weight is concerned. It just seems more likely to start a bit lower then build up as the years go on. 400 hp starting wouldn't give it anywhere to grow to make it more appealing to additional buyers after the first wave is over.

I think it would be cool if taking a driving school that is a bit more specific than DD that is more suited to the specific class or type of vehicle you drive would be cool if it dropped your insurance rates. Say $200-$500, depending on course intensity, for the school and you have 1/2 of that amount cut of off your insurance ever 6 months.

Of course one speeding ticket and that savings and option is cut off. Of yeah, and you can still clear one ticket every 6 months though with DD. That would be a cool idea, less ricer/motorhead type driving that way.

The new 5.3L puts out more power than you think and the heads are great. The only place you could tell was on the top end. It is completely AL like the LS1 and is actually from a better block than the LS1. They used a LS6 block and the only change was the bore. Everything else is exactly the same. Put a different cam in it and it would have the same HP as the older LS1 with more fuel econ. It is only a 20 cube difference from what we are used to. For a base engine that would rock. If that was the Z28 it wouldn't be that bad especially if they rigged displacement on demand on that sucker.

Well, we can blame Ford for half of that. If they didn't fu$% up on the Pinto then Ralph wouldn't have gone overboard on the consumer protection theme. Airbags, ABS, Traction control, crush zones, lapbelts, dual side mirrors... you can blame all of that on Ford. Some cars now have 8 yes 8 airbags! That would be a killer to fix if you got into a fender bender.

why are you people talking about all kinds of different engines? you need to think from a 2009 perspective rather than a 2006 perspective. the corvette will probably have a newer and more powerful engine BY 2009 so the LS7 actually is a big possibility for the new camaro.

With today's roadways I think intense driving courses should be mandated for anyone to have the privledge to drive on US roads no matter the vehicle platform or engine HP.

In Germany, they won't let you on the Autobahn without special courses. We should do that here. It would prevent even more wrecks by having graduated scales of courses. More for sports cars, less for ecomony cars.
