Default flexplate problems SEE PICS

Im changing my 99 6 speed dcar to a TH-350. I had the converter made for an LS1 with the right size pilot on the front.

I ordered this flexplate from another member that said it came off of a LS1 T/A. Well it wont work on my car. The flexplate is flat and doesnt have the raised area where it bolts to the crank and this causes it to lay flat against the motor. It hits the starter housing. Also the bolt holes dont match the converter holes which may be normal since I have heard of elongating the holes on some flywheels.

Couple of questions.

I keep hearing about 98 flexplates. What makes them different?

Does the flexplate in my pics even look like an LS1 flexplate?

Notice how far off the holes in the flywheel are to the converter. Is this normal?

PTC told me that the flywheel should have another set of holes that should like up?

Could washers be used between the crank and flexplate to space it out incase I get stuck with this flexplate?

My 00' Z28 only had 3 holes in it for mounting the TC. I see yours has 6 holes or two sets. I assume you tried both and niether work right? Also, if it hits the starter, that doesn't sound right either. I would not use washers between them either. Did you pay much for it? I ended up using a TCI fleplate and worked great for my TH400.

That looks pretty much like the '98 'plate I put on mine.
It seems like maybe you just want to ignore the marks
from the bolts and flip it over. I see stamped bosses
that should mate up to the converter if you did.

No way this plate is working on my car.

Notice the plate in this link. It is raised to space the plate away from the engine.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/attachmen...chmentid=61808

My crank sits flush with the back of my engine so with a flat flywheel it will sit against the engine.

My flywheel in the pic below only has one set of holes and it has 6 holes.

Edit Looking more closely at the pictures, you have an SBC/BBC flexplate which will not work on an LSx engine. Below is an actual 1998 flexplate from Jen's 1998 Z28 ... which is still currently in use. Also, most aftermarket flexplates for SBC/BBC aplications have those "bosses" on the TC bolt holes, LSx type do not. SBC/BBC flexplates are flat, where as LSx are not.

GM no longer makes a '98 only flexplate, hell they do not make the '01-'02 flexplate either. All of the flexplates have been replace by a third design that works will all LSx applictions.

Whoops, too big, just click on the link:

Looking at the 98' flexplate in that pic, it looks like the offset is greater than my 00' flexplate and my TCI flexplate, am I correct? I ask this because his converter was built with the extra long input snout and if the offset is to much it won't work. The Pic might be deceiving though..

I picked this flywheel up today. It came off of a 2002 5.3 truck engine. It has the offset to space it away from the engine and it also bolts right up to my PTC converter without elongating the holes.

The flexplate you just now posted is a 2001-2002 flexplate. If the flexplate you have is the same as the one I posted, then you mounted your flexplate backwards. Turn it around and it should work. Put the face that is towards the converter on the crankshaft, and the face that is on the crankshaft towards the converter. It could also be that the one you have is/was flattened and no longer has the curve as OEM designed (very possible).

No sir. I do not install things backwards lol. The 1st one I posted is flat. The latest one I posted is curved so that it spaces the flywheel away from the engine.

The one I posted is not like yours 12sec. Mine is flat.
