Default Do you have to Remove Bumper to Replace Headlight Assembly?

My 98 SS has a cracked headlight lens. Do you have to remove the bumper to replace this whole assembly. I'm having the front bumper painted and was wondering if I needed to get a light now, or if I could wait a while. Thanks Brandon.

You could wait, you don't take the bumper off to get to teh headlight assembly, but I'd do it now anyways..

You can wait if you want. But it isn't required. Just turn the adjustment screws all the way (so the headlight is furthest in), and take off the 2 10mm bolts (if I remember correctly), and you can slide it out without a problem.

There is only one 10 mm bolt holding the headlight in. Take that bolt out, and then slide the light to the side, and then jiggle it a bit. It will come out.

I seem to be taking my headlights off every month for various reasons.

Note: You actually have to take the headlights out to remove the front bumper.

I'd replace it before getting the bumper painted as then there is no chance of scratching your newly painted bumper trying to replace the headlight. Mine have been in and out various times and I've never scratched the bumper but why risk it when you need a new one anyway?
