Default Are there any fast new Mustang GT's out there?

Well, it's been a while since the new Mustang GT's came out and I haven't seen any fast ones as of yet. Just wondering if there are any fast ones out there yet to compete with some of these sick LT1/LS1 cars. You would think with all of the parts available for the 4.6 & 5.0 engines that there would be companies making some sick go-fast parts for these but it seems that is not the case.

There are a few gutted ones owned by various shops running 9s. Nothing really impressive running on all-motor, mostly because in NA form these 4.6L Mustangs suck and are overweight.

Mine put down a blistering 14.1 @ 99 mph while being powershifted.

I have heard that the new 3 valve heads should be on par with the 4 valve heads of the past. So I expect to see some good numbers eventually, and probably with forced induction of course. I wonder how big you can take out the new 4.6, if they changed the block enough to allow for big stroke and bore? i think the last generatioin could only go to like 5.3 from 4.6.

They will get faster, but these cars are all still pretty new, and people gotta pay for'em.

I saw a sc 05 gt on slicks tonight put up a best of 11.9 at 120. The rest of the runs were in the high 12's with a slower trap speed.

probably a nitrous car.

The main weakness on the 3-valve is the pistons seem to be junk, and aren't very reliable past 450 rwhp under boost. Quite a few guys have grenaded their engines at that point.

With built bottom ends, sure these things could take some boost.

I raced an 05 GT. He smoked them through 3rd, chirped them into 4th, and once we got a clean race he kept up pretty good with the S7000. Didn't get to talk with him, but he's definitely deep into 11s, maybe even 10s.

You want Mustang speed? Just wait until the Shelby Cobra hits the streets. It will be 03/04 Cobra all over again, but at a higher horsepower starting point. After the usual upgrades (pulley/intake/exhaust/tuning) that car will be...

And on top of this: How about the $30,000.00+ more that the ZO6 Vette costs compared to the Shelby Cobra?

Now on the other hand the Shelby Cobra could stand lose 400 lbs.

You have no clue. The days of the $100 pulley swap are over. You can't do a pulley swap on the GT500 without changing the blower snout. This will be available close to production time but no word on price. For a Ford GT it's over 2 grand. Also, the upper pulley is small to start with.

I donno man 117 traps out of the box is pretty impressive. Yes it's heavy but we all know what they do with supporting mods. **** I gained 30 RWHP with a K&N filter!! Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Also your car is being discussed in this thread. https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...67#post4993267

You didn't, but you made it seem like with just a few mods these things will be monsters.

No it's NOT going to be the 03/04 Cobra all over again. The 03/04 Cobras could gain massive horsepower from a $200 pulley. This is not the case with the GT500. Everybody and thier mom isn't going to shell out over $2k to change the pulley as was the case with the Terminator where you could do it for just a few hundred.

The "usual upgrades" are going to cost thousands of dollars on the GT500 which is a mute point when you are comparing it to a car that's in stock form. For the cost to do pulley/snout/intake/exhaust/tune you could have a heads/cam car.

The new GTs are nice cars but performance wise kinda a joke, 14.1@99, thats about as fast as a stock F-body GM built 13 years ago. There were on the right track with the 03/04 Cobras, I would have hoped the new GT to be as fast as a stock LS1, guess thats just to much to ask from a Ford. Over all great car, nice looks, good interior, but they need to step it up on performance
