air removal question

air removal question I pulled my smog pump / air system out of my 93 Z28 and it was pretty simple, but I had 1 question. On the back side of the intake manifold the air system had 1 pipe that went into the back of the manifold and it was held in place by a flange and 2 bolts. What was the purpose of that and does that need to be blocked or can I just leave it open? I know the 2 fittings on the manifolds must be blocked, but I never saw mention of this anywhere until I pulled it out and saw it. Thanks.

Yea we figured it out last night when I was at my friends shop. The 93s use a different setup than 94+. Instead of a 3rd fitting on the exhaust manifolds to go the the egr the 93s route the AIR around the back side of the engine and T off the metal tube and feed the egr that way. My friends 94 has a seperate feed for the egr and the AIR tubes run around the front of the engine. We concluded though if I remove the egr feed tube ( which I have to do to remove the AIR since I'm a 93 and it's 1 tube with a T in it ) and unhook the vaccum hose going to the egr valve then I'll be fine since it will stay closed. Is this correct?

If you remove the EGR, you have to nhook all the Vacumn lines, and plug the one in the Intake. Then take all the stuff off of the back, and plug where they go in the Manifolds, if you take the Air out also. Then you might have to have it tuned out, cause it may cause the PCM to run in safe mode.

Yea I'm expecting a CEL and don't mind that ... just don't want any intake manifold leaks.
merv - what do you mean by unplug ALL the vaccum lines? There's only 1 going to the egr valve I think so as long as I unhook that one and block it off in the intake manifold side of the line or even dirrectly at the manifold that should be all I need to do right?
*edit ... this is assuming I leave the egr valve back on the manifold how it is and only have the stove pipe removed.
