Default Problem

When im driving in the 30-65 range and I press the gas down about middle my car starts to jump and acts like its about to shut off. One time at about 40 i was doing it just to see what it would do and the car shut off for about 2 seconds and i had no response then it immediately turned back on. The car is a 93 trans am. Just got my wires and plugs redone about a month ago. Any help is greatly appreciated.

opti could be goin out. 93s and 94s had un-vented optis and had problems with overheating them and cracking and moisture build up. just something i would check out first

Check the Opti first. Does it respond fine, like it has power? If not, could be the Fuel System...

Its fine if I floor it but if i baby it and try to ease the gas from 35-70 it starts to shake and act like its misfiring. If its the opti how much should i expect to pay and on a scale of 1-5 how hard is it to do yourself? Thx guys for the help.

sounds like the opti. my car did the same thing. Took it to a shop, this is before I knew too much about the lt1, and they changed everything except the opti and told me my msd ignition coil was bad. cost me more than I'd like to say. one day when it was doing it I got pissed and floored it, it took off until the opti like exploded and the car shut off and I coasted into a domino's. finally after me telling them to check the distrubutor multiple times they changed the opti and it ran awesome. I then put my msd ig. stuff back on and it ran great. so apparently they didnt know or they just took advantage of a unsuspecting high school guy.

if you have the money I'd look into the alternatives. dynaspark or the lmcc... i think that is it. if you dont have the money to do those the opti itself is still a bit pricey. cant seem to remember how much mine was. few hundred im sure

Did you install this on your own or have someone else install it?

Yea, I hear ya. It's nice to have a place to work on your stuff. I have all the tools, hope I can find a place with a Garage when I get back. Get yourself a little 100 piece Standard/Metric Wrench and Socket set. I can tear apart my whole car almost with the one I bought.
