non f-body tire question -Yukon XL
OK, I'm dropping this here because I don't know that it fits in the "performance trucks" section.
my 03 Yuk XL came w/ 265/70-16's which I instantly changed to 265/75-16 Michelin LTX M/S. Now...that increased the tire height, but saw no change in the odometer or speedometer.
However, its time to get new tires and I'd love to go w/ the 285/75-16 BFG All Terrains.
Question: w/ 3.73 gears will the added inch or so of the 285/75 kill my gas mileage, and force the tranny to downshift more often on hills (does it quite often now)? I just got 18.5mpg w/ the 4x4 XL going to Myrtle Beach which is an 8 hour drive for me. I've got access to correct the speedo, etc. w/ bigger tires, so I wonder what the actual decrease in mileage will be.
Also, has anyone gone from the LTX M/S to the BFG All Terrain T/A. I know one would say that the BFG would be instantly louder, but if you look at the reviews, its supposedly not much louder.
Thanks,

the bfg's ride like glass on the higway...i can check at work what the mph change will be, ppl always come in and change out there 265's for 285's..only problem is you might have to cut on the drivers side the plastic piece on the bumper because sometimes it rubs

I've actually got the 265/75-16 Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos on my daily beater and love them. When I bought those they were a LOT cheaper than the BFGs, but was thinking they had caught up in price now -might be wrong.
My Yuk has the tan bottom w/ the fender flares and I'd like the width of the 285 to fill out that stance a bit. I don't want to put new wheels on it or I could do it w/ offset. Just because of the size of the vehicle, I'd like the taller and wider tire. But again, am not sure its worth the suckage of more fuel!!
