Need some advice, I got a 3.42 axle from a 2000 Z28, torsen rear. I installed it and took it for a drive and it is has a grinding noise(I equate it to grinding as if the pads were gone and the backing plate was rubbing on the rotor) coming from the rear, not sure exactly were. I thought it might be the old brakes so I changed them out, noise is still there. Happens all the time including going straight. Does the Torsen need friction modifier? Can it possibly be the wheel bearings. Diff is full with new fluid. Thanks for your help. Mark

The rear-ends that came in these cars are a crap shoot.
If you got one assembled correctly, and assuming you don't drag race it should last until the bearings pit, seals go...etc.

Some of us got the special kind when we bought our cars NEW, and gm didn't tighten the pinion nut, and that's when the real fun started.

So, to me it sounds like this is a salvage yard..or used rear???

Yes you say!
Then give it a rebuild and call it a day.

Remember there is always a $2500 option just a click away... :jest:
