I need tires for my new 18 and 17 inch c5 wheels and don't wanna spend an arm and a leg. Are somitumo hrtz good tires? I have heard they are bad in the rain, and that they make loud road noises, but never talked to any1 that actually had some.

I have them on my car in 17x11 and they are pretty quiet for the size and I cut consistant 1.8 60' at a local track that isnt known to hook.

For the price i've been very pleased with them!

I have the 315 HTR's and they are a great all weather tire, but I hate them at the track. I can't stall my converter; I have to leave the line at idle..... so if you aren't going to be doing any racing at the track I'd get them for the $$.

Decent street tire for the price, but nothing even approaching the grip of a $300+ tire or a DR. Theyre okay in the rain, but wide tires are always a bit floaty.

i have them on my ss. they hook pretty well for me. i have no comlaints, por the price, you cant beat them. oh and they are not noisy...

I had 18" HTRZ 2s on my '98, they are great tires for the money. They had good dry & wet traction, they road nice & were quiet.

Yeah, the HTR-Z II's are seemingly a better tire, but theyre not available in a 315-35-17 size.

whatever sumitomos i have on my car(315/35/17) are great for the money. i was plesantly suprised how well they are for the price. hook half *** at the track, but not bad for street tires. i doubt ill get them again, but not cause they weren't good

the HTRZs are GARBAGE. I'm amazed at all of the semipositive comments in this thread. I absolutely hate how my car handles with them. After the center of the tread pattern went almost completely bald at 32psi, I'm running them at 25psi and they are all washy and still don't hook for crap. Sure, if you do a burnout, they hook allright but they are garbage and they give no warning before giving up on the corners. They are totally numb, giving zero feedback. I have kumho ecstas on the front. when i had the nitto dr's, my car was neutral (no over/understeer) with the HTRz's, I the car will oversteer borderline out of control if I push them even slightly. The only thing they have going for them is that they are the CHEAPEST 315 tire you can drive in snow (sort of). Do a search.
Picture a nice tire having some belts and canvas etc inside to make it rigid and give it some shape and stability. The HTRzs have about as much rigidity as inner tubes. I say again; garbage.

i think ima go with the bfg kdws they are only about 220$ more for all 4 and they prolly last longer and are better

That's what I have on mine Jeff and they are great all around and long lasting tires, but I don't know if they will give you the traction you want~for the price you pay.

I had them on mine till I switched to Firehawk Wide Ovals. I liked them for the money yeah. Not a bad tire at all, I just got a really good deal witht the Wide Ovals cause I work for Firestone

I'll prolly go w/ the htrz2 then cuzz they are only about 494 for all 4 including shipping from tirerack.com. My current tires are Doral and they only cost liek 90 a piece brand new and i think they are decent so i would prolly do fine w/ sumitomos.

a friend has a set on his Gt and he gets good traction launching at 3000 with 4:10's.
i just ordered a set off tire rack at 88 a tire. i have a extra set of rims for racing so i don't really care about how well they grip.

If youre looking for a 275 tire, atleast get the HTRZ-II's. You also have a big assortment of good budget tires like the Fusion ZRis. Those of us looking for a 315 tire only have one budget option, and its the Sumi HTR-Z.
