Default Top speed, more/less in auto/m6?

Not sure if this is the best forum to ask, but what do ls1's/lt1's top out at, and what are the transmission limitations?

Does the m6 top out higher than the a4, and also, does the a4 top out in 3rd, or 4th?(I don't have 4th in mine, so I can't really test heh).

How much does 3.73s, and 4.10s lower that top speed?

Well basically, I think you can figure out what I'm trying to ask.

Well, a 4L60E has a .7:1 overdrive, which turns a 3.73 into a 2.61 in OD. That's numercially low enough, if your car can pull to redline in 4th, to get you to 155 or 30 days in jail, whichever comes sooner!

The M6 has an even lower final gear ratio in 6th, but most top end pulls in an M6 are done in 5th, which puts you in the same ballpark.

IMHO, 4:10 is too much gear for the 4L60E unless you run a 28" tall tire. 3.73 is ideal for under 500rwhp, 3.42 if you are over that. Pure drag cars or actual slicks are a different story.

i heard 6th gear bogs bad in top speed runs, wouldnt know though. i dont think the 6 speed's 5th gear and the auto's 4th gear are too much different. it would probably depend on the rear gears...

an a4 tops out in 4th. once you shift into 4th at WOT, it moves up to top speed slowly. I had once heard that shifting into 4th at WOT is really bad for the trans, supposedly the overdrive band can't handle that. Needless to say shortly after that top gear run against a bike on the highway my trans was toast.

Yes, you are correct. The fourth clutch or overdrive clutch will try to come on and stop the sun gear. This will cause excessive wear to the clutch. But don't listen to me because everyone in this fourm seems to think I am a dipshit because my title includes the words 6 speed.

2002_Z28_Six_Speed... Please stop the childish sniveling about being an M6 guy helping A guys. If you let someone get to you that quick you should stay off the internet. You obviously have good info, but people are not going to want to listen to you when you end with some jackass comment like that. Damn guy.

Are you guys friends? Just wondering. Hawaii can't be that large and from your wording it sounds like you know him.

Guys,

Lets keep this post on topic. There is no need to antagonize each other.

Thanks

I know it ia not limited to 155. I had the car spedometer peged a few times before. Tom speed is around 165+ or so judgeing from the RPM's. By the way that was back in 1999, when the car was still bone stock. It does pull in 4th. I have the 3.23 gears. WOT shift from 3rd to 4th is no big deal.
