There weren't any '98-'02 Trans Am WS6 Hardtops build....there are pics floating around in dealer brochures and that "infamous" Firebird tin sign has one, but none were offered to the public.

I believe there were some '98-'00 Formula WS6 Hardtops built.

My 2000 WS6 Formula is a hardtop, so I know they made a few.

That looks like my first T/A! I had a 1996 hard top WS6 T/A, with underside of the WS6 hood factory clearcoated. Rare bird indeed.

I have attempted to reasearch this, and the best I can come up with is that out of a little over 600 LS1 WS-6 Formulas less than 40% are hardtops. It seems in non WS-6 cars the percentage is less. There is not alot of info out there so at best I would call this a good guess

According to David Newhardt's book on the Firebird Trans Am, he says that there were no 98-02 hard top trans am's built. This, I would guess also includes ones with the WS6 package. But hey with fourth gen firebirds and camaros starting to end up in the junk yard there is probably no reason not to make your own...

Ya, I guess I just added some confusion to the thread. I was just backing up the comment about the Hardtop WS6 Formulas because thats what I have.

He's wrong on that one... in '98 they made 2 hard top Trans Ams. They were early test mules for the '98-up cars.. I know one of them was NOT a WS6, doubt the other one was as well.

FYI, There were no hardtop Formula's or TA's in 2002 all came w/T-tops or a Vert on the TA's. The last year for a hardtop in the Formula was 2001 but no WS-6, last year for that was 2000.

Excuse Me!! I Do Believe That Picture Is An Lt1 Car, Not An Ls1 Car. So Why Is Everyone Arguing About 98-02 Cars?

Because they offered the hardtop on the LT1 WS6 'birds. The controversies/lack of info lies with the LS1 'birds.

Besides, the person who started this thread has a '98 'bird anyway.

All the body-in-white 'birds sold to drag racers were hardtop cars. Watch the Stock & Super Stock classes at a national event sometime. This is an exaggeration, but there seems to be more hartop WS6 formulas racing in those two classes than ever rolled off the assembly line.

The stock/ SS cars are a collection of parts so you can see any combination. Corda's car in the photo has a TA rear bumper, and if I remember correctly the current A/FIA record holder(at 9.9 something) has a TA spoiler. Many of these cars started off as 6 Cylinders. Not to change the tread but if you have not watched these cars run I recommend the division races as a great way to see them and avoid the big crowds.
