Default my ss vs cts-v

raced a cts-v had exhaust , i dont know what other mods it had though... but looked like high $$ exhuast from what i could see. was as loud as my slp loudmouth setup too... he came up behind me and flew by me. so i quick caught up and we slowed to race. i dropped it into 3rd going 70mph then he took off alil sooner it was pretty much even that time, then we lined up again this time i slammed the gears alil harder 3rd was about even then 4th and 5th i was pulling.. i had the top down the whole time. but it was the closest race ive been in with this car. i was suprised when i saw the guy though he looked about 50 or 60 .. usually they dont drive fast.im glad i did my recent tb port though or i probly would of lost with the top down.

Hmmm....top down...into 5th gear (120 or so??) against a modded car with more power, better aerodynamics. I am not saying it didn’t happen, but my guess is he wasn’t working that T56 right. I have come up against a few SS’s and never had one pull on me. You have a lot of drag with the top down, you probably would have had about another car or 2 with it up. What do the verts weigh vs the coupes?

how does a cts v 4 door vehicle that weighs over 4000 lbs have better aerodynamics than a 2 dr ss conv that weighs around 3800lbs? im not being a dick i just dont understand how u came to that conclusion.

1. Curb weight on a CTSV is NOT OVER 4000. They weighs 3755. I recently had mine weighed so my G-tech would be accurate and after the header, exhaust and intake swap it looks like I shaved about 30 pounds, mine weighed 3722 with about 3 gallons of gas in it.
2. Curb weight HAS NOTHING TO DO with Aerodynamics. You could have a 10000000000 pound car with a better coeffecient of drag than a 1000 pound car.
3. The 2 cars weigh almost exactly the same. The CTSV has an LS6 the SS has an LS1. The Caddy has better gearing, and less drag as a convertible with the top down has horrible drag, and it increases exponentially as speed increases.

Does that explain it?

yeah we didnt stretch too far into 5th. and in 5th i wasnt gaining much. 3rd i was pulling but 4th id say was the best for me. it was a close race i would of been happy to even keep up with the ls6 with the mods i have. 5th will go to 170 i think. speedo stops at 150. we only went to about 130. i think he wanted to go faster, but i didnt. my cars not stock either, so i dont expect to be too much lower hp then he was.i wish i got it on camra. i was gaining after i was in gear though not right after the shift.i have an aluminum flywheel and centerforce clutch though so i might have more grab.he might of only had exhaust, thats the only mod i could see. i was suprised i won as probly you are, it was just the first cts-v i have seen up and personal and he actually wanted to race. nice guy though. gave me thumbs up after we raced, then took off through traffic. id like to know what gearing the cts-v's have too.

Nice kill. CTS-V's are non-aerodynamic turds!

Haha, Nice! I love it. Funny thing is....you are dead wrong.

Comments like this really hurt the credibility of F-body owners. Actually it’s a more aerodynamic, more powerful, better geared, better suspended, better braked (not a word, I know), better styled and faster turd. With more comfort and features than you can shake a stick at.

and PS, the V will do 167 mph...what will a Z28 do???????

Cadillac Takes on BMW M3 With 400-hp CTS-V Sedan. Wednesday, April 9. 2003 New York Auto Show ... increase in torsional stiffness is cited for the new bodyshell, along with a .30 coefficient of drag.

Not trying to be a dick here, just seems like your being snooting and trying to be a big baller...all the ss would need is a good cam and it would have taken the cts-v no prob and yes you can argue that with your caddy getting a bigger cam but the SS cost a **** load less....and for the record I would roll a cts-v in a hearbeat, just defending the fbody from a snooty caddy owner trying to hard...

How am I being snooty????

He called it a non aerodynamic turd.

Please don't start with the if it had X mod it would be Y mph faster. We see that stuff from the ricers enough already.

I was simply correcting a rude comment made about it. As far as the original post...it does seem odd that a car already underpowered, same weight and much worse drag (especially with the top down) would walk the V...unless the old guy driving it wasn't really giving it the berries.

I am not trying be hard...just factual.

maybe i got one of those "freak dynoing ls1" come on. ^and 3:73 is stock says a guy in the cts-v forum that responed to it. + i should have equal to or more hp then the cts-v given my mods i should be over 400hp flywheel. only confirmed mod he had was exhaust. and i have barely any parasitic loss in hp ewp+ ud pulley. as for ragging on either cars ... just dont do it. your underestimating camaro's. and cts-v's are far from turds i barely beat it in my modded ls1. cam, no need to win. although i am looking for a "boost friendly cam" . if i had the top up it would of been a whole different race still i dont think i would of "whooped it" or beaten it badly. he was trying and trying hard... but with my mods my cars substaintally faster then a "stock f body" i only lost to one i have raced and i was gaingin on him the whole time he only got the jump on me twice... (stalled auto +no warning = me trying to downshift while hes gaining ground)

CTSVSL65AMG, I see you have a couple of mods on your caddy, what does a stock CTS-V run in the 1/4? What did yours run stock? What has it run with your listed mods?
I'm just curious, maybe this will clear things up for some of us.

Thanks in advance.

3.73 = Caddy

3.42 = Camaro (I am pretty sure on this one, but am not 100%)

I ran it once with the craptastic run flats, got bad axel hop and ran a 13.29, this was at sea level.

I ran it again and PS2's a couple weeks later, and ran a 13.11.

I ran it a few month later after that with the Intake headers and exhaust, but not tunned and ran a couple 12.8X's and one 13.09 (axel hopped).
