Default oil smoke out of exhaust on my thumper turbo setup

searched around a bit, just want to get some more opinions.

i have a large frame garrett turbo that sits super low in the car. Im running a -4 feed with a .070 restrictor in it. For return/drain im running -8 line to a tilton differencial pump back into the timing cover.

occassionally the car smokes out of the tail pipe. When it does smoke it will smoke at startup and continue to smoke for a while. Other days its totally fine.

My understanding is that the garrett turbos run a ring that actually seals the oil from the center housing. Do you think its possible that the oil is siphoning out of the pickup tube for the oil pump and into the turbo, then out into the downpipe and out of the exhaust housing?

im not losing any substantial amount of oil, but i look like a 2 stroke dirt bike some days, other days theres a huge amount of smoke.

i have two actions im considering, one is install a check valve in the line to avoid siphoning, the second is to install a smaller restrictor.

Can I see a picture of how the turbo is mounted?

How high up is the turbo from oil level in your pan? Installing a smaller restrictor should not fix the problem either, have you considered a scavange pump to assist with oil returning?

Id take a peek in the piping to and from the turbo, see if there is oil in both pipes or just after the turbo. Sounds like valve seals to me too.

alot of scavenger users have the turbo drain into a little reserve then to the pump.

i was thinking about building a resevoir for my scavenge setup. Its a 2 gpm pump, so im going to pull the return line off and see how much oil is flowing out of the scavenge pump at high rpm.

could possibly be valve stems seals, but i would think it would consistantly smoke.

prolly need that reservoir for the oil to collect and de-foam before pumping to the pan.

my sporadic smoking has gone since applying vaccum to the crankcase

i had occasional light smoke when shifting at wot or under hard braking. but then again it went a way by pulling only 1" of vaccum at idle

i am using intake vaccum. if you use an air pump i heavily reccomend an oil separator before it. i burned up my stock air pump doing the same thing years ago, figured it choked on oil.

I may just put an fitting at the inlet of the turbo with a seperator behind it to avoid oil getting into the system.

Thanks again!

Not to change the subject, but that is a bad *** lookin camaro, loving the wheels man...

I put a mocal pump on my TA and ran 10an out of the T70 and 10an into the oil level sensor hole in the side of the pan. Seemed to work okay, I am running an .050 restrictor on mine though I think and -4an feed. I needed some pressure valve deal to get down from 60 psi pressure, as it was still blowing some oil into the charge pipe. Good luck with your issue man, I freakin hate smoke.

I had the same problem fixed it with a giant pump and 0.060 restrictor. Try the reservior, it should fix the problem.

I'm using a 3000psi 10gpm hydraulic gear pump running off a pulley to the crank.
