New Michelin Tweel...what do you think?
What are ya'all's opinions about this thing? I think it's a cool idea. I'm going to stick with a good tire/rim combo for the Z28, but this would be a good tire for a economy car if priced right and depending how well it handles in the rain and snow. Anybody know when it's supposed to be out? I guess there was a car at the Philly Auto Show with them on?http://www.michelinmedia.com/default/kw=MCHtweel

yeah, from what I've heard it works great, great traction and handling on it. I agree with the looks though, they need to create a sidewall or something... I guess it's just different. People are used to seeing a regular tire, it's all there's ever been for centuries. If you watched the demonstrations (videos) they were pretty impressive. The Military applications can withstand landmines and other obstacles, and a fix is to just cut out those fins in the middle where it was damaged and the tire still runs fine. Plus they had them on the bobcats and the bobcat handled very well. Usually they're bouncing around when you turn or hit a bump, but with the Tweel it was very smooth, the tires didn't come off the ground. I don't see them being on too many vehicles, but for the military or any kind of construction application I think you'll start seeing a lot of them.

Interesting concept. Definitely look odd.

Buy wheels and only replace tires as they wear out or buy a new wheel/tire every time? Seems like a waste to me.
