Just installed HPT. Can't read VCM. Help!
Hi All,
I'm in the UK so I won't be able to visit this post again for a good few hours. I hope someone can help. I know this problem has come up before but I can't find the answer.
I have a LS1 GM crate motor and VCM.
I've just installed my HPT 2.1.10 and am unable to even read the VCM.
I get the 'verify cable is connected and key is in the run position.' error message. The interface has the power LED illuminated and a slowly flashing 'busy' LED, so that looks ok?
Is there a way to rectify this?
I've uninstalled and reinstalled it but no luck.
This is very urgent.
Any help appreciated.
Tom.

Find the OBDII connector and check for power on it;
in-car it is the cig lighter fuse usually, crate motor,
who knows? This is the most common reason for
failure to communicate. If the motor runs than we
can discard the possibility of PCM fuses / power as
the trouble. But the OBDII connector needs to be lit.
I don't have the pinout info handy but I bet it's around
here somewhere.

Thanks Jim.
That's the first job. Checking the OBD port but the engine runs fine. I'll try to scan instead to make sure there is a connection.
HPT has now told me that the crate motor VCM is not supported.

Well, I had the same issue as you posted a few weeks back. Somehow, it just magically started working. Don't ask me how. I tried about 12 times to get connected, restarting the computer, trying different USB ports on my laptop to no avail.
Went back about 4hrs later, damn thing connected. Figure that one out....
