With almost 1200 posts you haven't figured out that it is impossible for people on the internet to tell you what pushrod to use? Measure it!

I don't have anything to measure it with right now and even if I did I couldnt measure at the moment because the heads aren't bolted down yet due to the fact that I just got them 3 days ago. A friend has a set of 7.400s that I can get tomorrow so I wanted to find out before he sold the damn things...

So, next time you wanna be a smart *** how bout shuttin up...

Seriously, I'm in the same boat. I'm about to order all the parts for my H/C swap. But I don't know what size pushrods to order. I have to do the swap in as few days as possible, so I can't be taking it all apart, putting the new heads on, measuring, then leaving the car to sit while ordering the pushrods. I need to already have them there. So what do we do?

Matt...

I hate to say it but King James's advice was spot on....Too many variables like you running an .060 gasket and most guys running closer to .040 just to name one.

The most anyone can offer you is a best guess....but the best results are achieved by measuring your combination with an adjustable pushrod, finding zero lash, and then add about .100 which represents your lifter preload.

Glad you finally received the heads and look foward to your results....now go buy King James a beer.

So what, just order extra pushrods and pray that I can sell them for near full price in the swap forum?

I know that the only "true" way to get them perfect is to measure.. Just haven't gotten that far yet. The only reason I posted is because I figured someone could tell me that the 7.400s DEFINATELY wouldn't be a good idea before my friend got rid of them.

Whoever you order your heads and cam from can tell you what length pushrods to order for that setup. My setup is a little bit different than most because of my gasket thickness, but I'm sure that someone can tell you what would work on your setup since I'm sure there are lots of people running that particular set of heads and cam.

For optimum performance you will have to measure. No way around it. I will be in the same boat shortly. The last parts I buy are going to be the pushrods.

How about if you find a place local that has pushrods? Then just measure and go pick up the ones you need.

And by the way, I think it would be worse if someone came on here and told you that a certain length pushrod will work for you, then you install it AND IT SMASHES INTO YOUR DIAMOND PISTONS!

I was hoping to get feedback from someone with a setup VERY similar to mine.. I don't take advice from just anyone.. I was kinda counting on some of the frequent tech guys to chime in with something.

And I wouldn't just throw them in there and fire it up without knowing that they were ok.

Alright, I was just busting your *****.

Are there any speed shops in your area? Maybe make some calls. Birmingham is a big city, there must be some place that sells what you need.

Actually 7.40's will be too short. Just by putting some figures on paper.
On average AFRs are .01 taller decks. 65 cc chambers is like a .006 mill.
and .08 gasket thikness difference.
So (aproximately)
.01- (.006) +.0080= .012
Take that into account + the base circle difference and it is clear that 7.40 will be a tad short.

King J and Tony were right though, measuring is the only way.

Don't rush into it and do it right.

Well, problem is they're used, and the guy said he used 7.35" but he never measured. And he had a bigger cam. I'll start a thread. Sorry to hijack.

So you've spent $2k+ on heads, $4k+ on a short block, and your made at me because you won't spend $20 on a pushrod length checker?

So you don't get upset again I figured I'd help you out

Pushrod Length Checker - Adjustment Range 6.800 in. to 7.800 in.

I never said I wasn't gonna buy one.. I said I dont have one right now and it wouldnt matter if I did because I can't measure it without bolting the heads on first. Sooo... Since someone gave me a LEGIT answer (besides being a smart ***) and told me the 7.400s would not work I went out today and bought a Comp pushrod checker.
