Default Temple Drag Strip

Im going up to Little River Drag Strip on the 7th of July, any body want to meet up and run a few times? Its my buddies unoffical birthday party and he wants to run his 67 mustang, any other LS1 owners want to come race his car and run my GTO? My Girlfriends Rumble Bee will most likely be there as well.

Just so you know, the track can get a little slippery. In fact I have heard it called "slip and slide" on more than one occasion. Have fun though, if I was up that I would swing by.

Yah, Friday night = slip-n-slide.

I haven't been since the "old owner" took it back over, but I'm sure I'll be going again before too long. I only go on Saturdays tho. Never again on a Friday. Never.

Back in 02 I nearly put my 02 Z28 in the rail driving the right lane. Very scary but I got it back in control. Track can be slippery. I may bring my VHO out on 07 JUL 06 if nothing else is going on. See ya there.

I have a bunch of racing buddies of mine up there today & tomorrow running in the Big money Little River Shootout Bracket Race. They called last night and said that the improvments were really good, track was really smooth. They are going to call me tonight. I will report how things are there in the morning.

PS. I have always liked the track. Back in 2003 I won 9 races there.

Little River is a shithole.. We donated some money to have the track repaved this summer.. Instaed of repaving the whole track from burnout box to shut down area, they pave from about the 330Ft mark all the way down- a total waste, and its still bumpy as hell. I wish someone who knew what they were doing would step in and buy the track..

Now my wife hates the track. That is why I am not there this weekend.

My buddies must have done well today. No phone call as of yet. Should hear from them in the morning.

I used to race 2-3 times a month at TAD, "Little River" as we called it.

That's because I lived 30 minutes away and SAR hadn't been built yet.

The track was never great, but it was local and I enjoyed racing there. I probably went there close to 80 times from 1996-1999. After Clifford died, Linda couldn't/didn't run it worth a ****.

Doc and Greg Duffield tried to buy it from her. They actually had "possession" of the track for a short time and made some big improvements. Linda tried to swindle them and they had to turn the track back over to her. Now, it's back to being run like ****.

I may incur some flames for my opinion, but I know everyone involved and feel my depiction is pretty accurate.

Hey guy from Giddings: go to SAR.

The way I heard that story was that Greg tried to get the big guys (outlaw, pro-street, etc) interested in the track. He paid the big bucks just to get them to come out, and then paid a huge purse to the winners. His plan didnt work to well and after time he ran out of money and let alot of the "volunteers" that work out there go and it became worse than it was, so Linda bought it back..
Just hersay though, I know for a short time about a year ago, the prices got bumped up to $20 to race and $10 to watch, so it may go with the story I heard..
Either way, they need to completely tear down that place and start over or move.
Its great that we have a local track to go fiddle fart around on, but sometimes it just aint worth it..

TAD is supposedly the longest continuously operated dragstrip in Texas.

From that perspective, it would be a shame if it were to close down.

However, from my selfish perspective, I feel that if TAD were to close, somebody might build a track in or very close to Austin. Right now, with TAD to the North and SAR to the South, it doesn't make sense to build a track in Austin. You wouldn't get enough racers competing with two other tracks... but if TAD were to fold... a track in Austin could attract all the locals plus the Temple, Waco, Ft. Hood, etc. crowd.

I hate driving an hour and 15 to an hour and a half to go to the track, but I love racing more than I hate the drive. I'd be in a perfect world if a track were to open in the Austin metro area.

We have already entertained the thought of buying a strip of land on the north side of Belton next to I-35 (about 300 acres) and putting a 1/4 mile strip there with sled pulling, mud drags, and maybe a kart track on it as well.
Its in a dream state now, but if we had to money to do it, and enough interest from the public, we would do it in a heartbeat..
Temple Academy's location is cool, kind of the "backroad" strip, but the land is way to short to have any decent cars run out there with confidence..

Anyone who tries to argue any of that is a retard.

Kudos to greg for trying to do something with that shithole.
