Default Big-dumb meany-head rattly exaust

Ok, on my 98 Z28, Im having major rattle problems. At idle, I tave a really fast rattle, that sounds like its coming from the engine compartment. This 'may' be valve noise, but im not sure. It goes away when you play with the gas any at all. And then theres my other problem. At about 1500, and then again at about 2300 rpm, I get a really loud rattle that sounds like its coming from the drivers side manifold/cat. The cat is gutted by the way.

Anyhow, anyone have any suggestions on how to find and eliminate this crap? Or should I just take it the the local exaust shop.

Thanks in advance.

Could be that little metal ring that is on top of the O2 sensor rattling around.

Jack the car up, get under there and start hitting the exhaust to find out where the rattle is coming from. <img border="0" alt="[judgement]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_judge.gif" />

I damn near ran my truck off a bridge the other day when I had to wait for 2 hours in traffic listening to my exhaust rattle. <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[bomb]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_bomb.gif" />

I've had something like that for a few weeks now. It would only come on under load, at around 1300 rpm. So last night, I put it in gear, stood on the brakes, and revved it up to 1300 while my friend Trey banged around on things in the rear of the car.

The Hooker muffler on my car probably had an internal baffle come loose. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

It was an O2 sensor, but it wasnt the little cap. It was the whole thing. I just screwed an old sensor in there, and it went away. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
