Question Very Fine Scratches in Expensive Wheels

I have a set of HREs but my question applies to those with highly polished aluminum wheels....

I have tried tons of polishes, different microfiber rags, etc. and my wheels still have very fine scratches. I can't feel them with my nail and they are visible only from certain angles and lighting.

Has anyone experienced this? Any luck completely removing them?

Thanks in advance!

I had them on my wheels till I sat down and wetsanded and repolished my wheels. I figured out it was from my microfiber towels that I was using because while I was repolishing the 1st wheel I noticed that as I polished I would leave some fine scratches. I pulled out one of my really nice towels and it didn't leave any. It's all about the quality of the towel and the polish that you are using. I used mothers billet polish and my towels were from Pak Shak

if that doesn't work use a high speed drill with a polishing wheel on it. U will get a much better result than doing it by hand. Go to eastwoodco.com and get the yellow wheel, with some of the white polishing compound. Polish the scratch with that , and then get some mothers aluminum polish and finish it up. Use the wheel for that as well. I would buy two of the 6'' yellow wheels , one for each step. You will end up spending around 20- 25$ shipped for this , but it will save you hundreds. I got it delivered to nj in 1-2 days. I have done this , and know for a fact this will work. It will not work if the scratch is really deep , but you said it wasn't , so u should be ok.

I'm starting to suspect my Meguiar's Microfibers too...after polishing my wheels yesterday, they now have swirls like you would see on paint!

What the heck else should you use if even MF can scratch them?

Do the HRE's and IForged have a clearcoat on them? The Fikse's do. And are the wheels polished aluminum?

I actually have those exact products. I just think the polish is too abrasive (Mother's Billet Polish) or the Microfiber rags I'm using aren't fine enough.

No clearcoat...Yes they are polished aluminum. They are so highly polished, they look like chrome.

My clearcoat center is what has the scratches. The outer lip on the Fiske is polished aluminum, uncoated ( looks like a mirror too ) but has no scratches. Been using Advanced Auto MF towels.

No clearcoat on my TT2's...

So what would have caused it? The Meguiar's Microfibers, or the Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish?

To keep the swirl marks down

Try sprinkling a little corn starch on the final polish and buff

Eh, I'm not that concerned about it. I'm just picky and it's something no one else will ever notice.

Not all MF towels are created equal. 01 Red WS6 mentioned using Pak Shak towels and they are the best I've ever used. I have a couple sets of very nice feeling MF towels that scratch like crazy, including a Meguiar's MF buffing towel. I'm not bashing Meguiars, as they make tons of really great products, but I haven't had the best of luck with their towels.
