thuder racing tb and maf descreen?
thinking about getting a ported TB from thunder racing..they charge $150 for theres and $260 core charge. just wondering if thats reasonable and if i could find them or get mine done anywhere else cheaper (maryland). also while i have the tb out i want to descreen my maf. any pros or cons in doing this and is there anything i should know or be carefull of while doing it. just wondering will i need any tuning or reprograming at all when i get it all back together. thanks for the help

For every person that posts that removing the screen will gain you 2HP (or 4,5,8,10, whatever) there will be at least 3-5 people that will say it caused nothing but problems. Personally, I think that a gain that small, versus a couple hundred dollars to fix any problems it may cause, isn't worth the risk.
As for the TB, that's one gain that's shown to work. There's quite a few sponsors that offer either porting or new machined ones, or ones on an exchange. Shop around for the best price, or search for "Ported TB" for other options, ideas, and results.

Else just shop around and see what prices you can find. The $260 core charge is if you don't send in your TB.
If you are wanting to spend money take a look at TPIS, they offer a 90mm Ls6 intake on an exchange basis (you have a 01 so you also have a LS6 intake) and get a 90mm TB. You'll see decent gains over a ported sotck LS6 intake.
A FAST 90 with a 90mm TB (Nick Williams) will show even better gains, but it's pricey.
As for the MAF:
Leave it be!
The screen is there to create a laminar flow for accurate reading from the MAF sensor itself.
Removal of the screen means you are liekly to get incorrect MAF radings causing all sorts of issues, poor idle, loss of HP, massive drop in mpg.
If you don't get any adverse side affects you'l probably see somewhere around ZERO 0.5HP increase. Certainly not enough to meausre on the dyno or at the track.
So the question is "do you feel it's worth the risk?"
BTW - A totally stock MAF is fine for over 500rwhp.

I think that some people stab it out with a bowie knife and cut the actual sensor portion, and that is another reason people have problems. The walmart bag I found on mine when I got the car made me think really hard about de-screening it.
