Depends on your use... autos are known to be more consistent, launch better and faster than the 6spd, but the 6spd is much more fun! :)

I reckon both transmissions are very slow without a car to power them ;)

Fast in a M6 really depends on the driver. I can't tell you how many times I missed gears in the Trans Am. Didn't miss any in the Z06, but then I never had it at the drag strip. This C6 with its A6 definitely gets up and goes, and I never have to worry about missing a gear. I do admit that sometimes I miss the M6, but I sure don't miss it while holding a Starbuck's and calmly cruising. These paddle shifts will take a bit of getting used to, though. They don't shift the gears instantly, so it's still possible to bang the rev limiter if you don't hit it in time.
I need to find a stock 2005 A4 C6 to see which transmission has the better acceleration. I'm thinking it's the A6. A6 vs. M6, the M6 car puts more power to the ground, but planting that power and hitting all the gears just right is an artform, so stock C6 M6 vs. my A6 would probably be 50/50 depending on the driver of the M6.

damn this is gonna be harder then i thought i really wanna 6speed but when i'm just ridin' in heavy stop & go traffic i'm not a big fan of changin' gears but on back roads and racing i rather have a 6speed. for some reason people around here just dont take a automatic car seriously

Id say if you are into driving at all, get an m6. Auto gets so boring, even if the car is slower manual it will be so much more fun.
Hey Chevy, just a thought; get a Z06, and you don't have to worry about which tranny to choose from...and, they're FAST straight outta the box.

the m6's are much faster from the factory because of the stock gear ratios...the a4 came with 2.73's the m6 with 3.23's or 3.42's... 3.42's for me

People would like to beleive they can bang their M6s to hang with the Autos, but it really takes a hell of a driver. This is coming from my cousin who has decades of experience racing cars and has owner many manual Mustangs. Automatics are obviously more convenient from day-to-day use, but manuals are a hell of a lot more fun if you're an enthusiast.
I got the Auto because in an F-body it really is the only choice unless you wanna risk replacing the rear-end, and seeing as how I had to break my piggy bank to afford this thing at 17, the risk wasn't worth it.
But if I got a Corvette, I'd most definitely get a manual. Even thought it might not be as fast as the automatic (when I'm driving), it's still very fun to drive.
if your into drag racing, Auto all the way
if your into road racing, M6 all the way
+1
I enjoy M6 and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Alot of good points above, but IMHO Auto Tranny's in Corvettes should be against the law... Its a sports car with a Butt load of muscle, so its meant to be driven and driven hard
So my vote is manual...

Wrong.....all manuals c5s have 3.42 (not 100% sure about z06s...but non-z06s anyways). The auto has an option of rear gearing.

Just ask yourself how many NHRA funny cars and top fuel cars have an auto? Yes, it takes practice to get quick with a manual but you can shift one faster than an auto. Just ask Ranger.

I have a small question...Is their some sort of mod to make the shifting(paddleshifters) of the C6 shift instantly? Instead of the thing shifting two or one seconds later because its getting pretty annoying :bang:

Last I checked there was NO tranny in a top fuel/funny car. They have a big stack of slipping clutches which gets them down the track. More like an auto than anything else though.

Nothing of which I am aware. Yes, it does get annoying. I agree

Are You getting a C5 or C6. Major difference. If you go with a C5 get the auto and change the rear end to a 3.42 with a good stall converter. The difference between the 2.73 and the 3.42 is Night and Day.
Frosty

Keep in mind not all C5 autos got 2.73's guys ;)
Also, the top fuel car comparision is weak. Total different type of car and scenerio.
I personally like my auto. Sure manuals are fun but I live in a highly congested area and there's no way in hell I'd want to sit in traffic with a stick car.
I say drive both and see what you like. There are pros and cons to each.
