Default Patriot LS1 Stage II Heads?

Hey everyone,

I'm still a little new to the LS1 and I have been looking around at engine parts. I stumbled upon these guys:

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Are these things any good? The price looks right. Would this be a good option for a heads and cam setup? What would be a good cam to run on these heads (street car setup)?

Thanks for the help all!

Yea, their a good overall head, here's the link directly to their site http://sites.reachtheworld.tv/waterN...05233&DID=1225. I run them on my car, they're a nice budget head and naturally don't flow as well as some of the higher priced heads like AFR, Dart, etc. but for the money they are pretty nice.

Good budget oriented heads. Not the best, but a far cry from the worst.

For a street, daily driver, mild setup - what would be the cam to go with for these heads?

I'm running a TR224 with them with no problems but I'd probably go a bit bigger than a 224. The 224 runs real well with the heads and has good torque and pulls more than a stock cam through the powerband but seems to die down a bit at highway speeds.

i am running the same setup tr224 and the stage 2 perimeter bolt heads. i have no complaints. if i had to do it again though i would have gone with a center bolt head since they flow better, but i had a budget so i didnt have a choice.

Tuned?

Are these heads worth getting, or should I hold off for something a little bigger, like AFRs?

I've been running my Patriot stage 2 LS1 heads for about three years now with no problems, for the money I'm satisfied. I run a comp 224, 228 -- 581 lift on a 114 lsa, the car makes good power considering I'm running a flow crapper exhaust and have a few tuning issues, it put down 392 rwhp.

I would also check out the PRC line of heads. They are the best head of late,IMO.Check the dyno section, they have been putting out some real nice numbers.

To me, it's just according on what your plans are with the car. If your satisfied with a budget head that makes decent power then I'd go ahead and get the Patriot's but if your looking for more flexibility and power in the future then I'd go ahead and hold out for something a little better flowing. I'm putting down right at 400rwhp with a "budget" build but their are others out there putting down 450rwhp with a larger set of heads and bigger cam.

Do they still offer the Stage 2 perimeter bolt heads for us '98 guys?
How much $$ for a bare set?

Learn from other's experiences don't skimp on heads. If you buy a budget set of heads your going to make budget power. It's all what plan to do with the car. The AFR, Dart, LPE Edelbrock's are a new casting unlike the ported stockers and are well worth the added price IMO.
