What kind of gas mileage are you guys getting? Im getting about 16 to 17 around town with a pretty light foot, and i have an M6. Make sure to specify whether you have an M6 or A4.

wow whats your shifting pattern when you drive normal? I just drive 1st 2nd 4th 6th, you need to teach me your ways!

i'm an A4 w/2.73's, nearly all stop-and-go driving in my daily commute. i regularly shift at ~2200rpm's with regular runs to 3000-4000rpm's and have never seen any less than 21mpg in the month+ i've had my car.

crappy in town. avg 20 a tank, 28-30mpg on the highway.
supercharger, m6, longtubes.

mine's 17-19 in city and 25-28 on highway . . . . now my buddies 02 WS6 T/A gets 21-24 in city and 30 or so on freeway, thing's pushing 400 rwhp also!

i dont get any less then 20 no matter how hard i beat the car

average 21-22 in town and 28-29 on highway

i get about 250miles per tank..

06-28-2006, 03:57 PM
Haha my car gets like 11 MPG, I was getting 200 miles to a tank and after I installed my lid I get 170. I drive through all the gears, I cant do 1st to 4th, but I dont even know if that makes a HUGH difference I get 11MPG and everyone else says they 20+ so I duno. I only have 27,000 miles on my car and the most MPG I ever had was driving to E-town in 6th gear down and I had 100 miles to a 1/4 tank.

I have a 6-speed 2000 SS and after the last time I filled up I did the math and I got a tad bit over 20 mpg. I pretty much followed the shifting patterns found in the Camaro manual with a couple of fast runs on the highway. But 90% of the driving was stop and go.

mikerulzu
06-28-2006, 05:05 PM
M6: I average around 17mpg on a tank with almost all city driving, maybe 40 miles per tank is highway. If I go light, I'll get around 19.

LS1Aggie09
06-28-2006, 05:05 PM
I drive what i consider normal...with a light foot and an occasional romping through the gears and I get 16.5 to 18.2 in the city and the best on the highway for some reason has been 21 and that was going about 70 to 75...but i have only gone on the highway that one time. My only Mod is a Lid and I have an M6.

17-21 In town.. and about 26 - 28 on highway at 75 MPH in 6th. with stock gears on a 2000 SS

ChocoTaco369
06-28-2006, 09:11 PM
just mod your car accordingly. underdrive pulley, lid, catback, LT's, FTRA, electric water pump, tune - all add mileage. if you get all that stuff done you'll be looking at i bet 25mpg. i know an underdrive pulley's huge for fuel savings. too bad i have a system...

i've found my car likes to be ran harder...if i shift at 2000rpm's i get 21mpg, if i run it up to 2500rpm's i get 22mpg...maybe i get into overdrive faster, i don't know...

sswagon1
06-28-2006, 09:25 PM
i get about 22 mpg, average 70-80 mph all freeway/ highway miles. had the car for over a month now, but i'm thinking i can do better with a tune up. noticed a lot of carbon on the tail pipes too. trans in sig with 3.42's. my 04 imp ss was getting around 24 mpg before i got rid of it. so i can't complain, considering gas just hit $3.30 a gal.

sscamaroburn02
06-28-2006, 09:43 PM
i have a 2001 SS with m6 and stock gears. i get on average about 22 in the city and 27-28 on highway. I usually shift at around 2300 in the city

BlueSix
06-28-2006, 11:44 PM
i used to get about 15 in my '02 ws6, lots of city driving. I'll average 20 in the GTO with a 50/50 mix of city/highway. '02 was an A4, GTO is an M6, slightly shorter 6th than the f body's have.

10-12 mpg around town, 24-25 mpg on the interstate.

ummm, i am the big loser so far! i get 170 out of a tank, max, but its all in town, and mostly haulin ass whenever possible.

98s have a smaller (and heavier) tank than the later years so don't worry too much about mileage per tank.

Im looking into a 99 M6 Z28 with (gears- the guy is looking up what they are in there), catback, a lid, and a tuner and basically thats it for performance mods. Should I be able to tune the car with the Hypertech to be able to get maximum gas mileage while still being able to quickly(and easily) change it back to a race mode/race gas fuel map?

Do some research on this board before making any decisions on buying mods....the hypertech is good for nothing more than fan settings and gear ratio changes.

I get around 15-16mpg city/highway mixed. Used to get around 20 when stock.

Not being funny at all, but who really gives a chuff. It's a V8 powered muscle car.

Working the mpg out won't make it anymore economical. If it needs fuel just fill it up or park it up :burn:

if you guys get anything over 15-16 pure city your lucky. Come to Montreal, worst traffic ever!! I get about 17 with stop and go/hwy. Thats not skipping gears and not beating on it at all. Short trips kill my mileage as well. When i hit the gym, its about 3 miles away, but theres like 20 lights and 20 stop signs, i get about 13mpg pathetic!

Threads like this and 'whats your current rwhp' both hate me.

I only get like 13/23

I'm starting to think I'm tuned very rich but I haven't touched the ECU, and I'm pretty damned sure the last owners didn't.. both were 45+ year old ladies.

Anyone????

If you are getting 13/23 mpg and only put down 271 rwhp, even in an auto 98, something is amiss. New spark plugs? No exhaust leaks? Otherwise running fine? Your 1/4 times are what they should be, considering the 60'.
Did you get a wideband hooked up for your dyno pull?

One reason...automatic.

They sap up more power, the TC creates slippage, and the engine is always under a load at a stop. That explains the worse city mileage ;)

When I think gas mpg I short shift at 2,000rpm and in 6th gear at 50mph. I use 6th gear alot unless I'm climbing a grade, than I downshift to 5th gear. And I use cruise control as much as possible even when climbing a grade.

there's a lot you can do to boost your highway mpg in an M6. first off, 3.42's are great for highway crusing. stock tires and 16" rims are good, too. big, heavy ZO6 rims on 275 tires are a no-no for highway fuel economy (it's my setup :( ). electric water pump and underdrive pullies are GREAT for fuel mpg. a fast toys ram air kit will boost it, along with better spark plugs, better wires, longtube headers and a good flowing catback. with those mods, TUNED, you will see an EASY 30mpg in an M6. shoot, i can see you pulling 35 mpg with proper driving (65mph). let's not forget proper tire pressure either. high psi means less energy to turn the wheels!

:offtopic: If I had it my way, the car would not have a Flowmaster catback. The car came this way and I don't feel like spending money on it other than upkeep. that's really not that good. i'm talking 19-24 AVG mpg over a whole tank, mixed city/hwy driving. and so far my car has never seen seafoam or injector cleaner in the 25k i've put on it out of the 77k it has seen. just one more reason to go w/ an fbody over a mustang lol.

M6 mixed driving 21 average for over 30,000 miles of record keeping. I have logged every drop of gas since I bought the car new. I even have a spread sheet going for all expenses. The old expression choose your battles is how I drive. I nail it (flog, beat, stomp, whail, smash) selectively. Of interest might be that my oil consumption goes up as my fuel economy goes down.

I was averaging about 20mpg mostly driving to and from work before the LS6 Intake and CAI. That was about 50/50 driving w/ the A/C on quite a bit and some WOT runs. I'm sure a plug change could help that out some though. Not quite sure what I am getting now, can't seem to keep my foot out of it recently. :jest:
