Default Need help on understanding how a stall acts.

I was recommended a 3600 stall and 2.2 STR by fuddle. I was wondering how is it going to act on the street since this is my daily driver. Like at 1/8 to 1/4 throttle, are the rpms going to shoot up to ~3000rpm before the car moves? I want to understand this so it doesnt sound like im trying to race everyone off the line, and I like my 21 mpg

If anyone that lives around Jax, FL and has a stalled car, I would like to observe how it acts if its not to much to ask.

With regular performance tires you are going to light them up from a stop and slow roll. DR's will help you hook a lot better.

Basically when you give it gas you RPM's will jump to about 2.2K before you get the car moving at a nice pass, so you will notice your exhaust signing a little louder for daily driving.

Otherwise it is no where near as bad as some lead you to believe.

I have the same fuddle stall in my car. The car still creeps forward idling in gear and I can keep up with traffic from a stop and stay under 2300rpm. If you hit the gas harder the rpms will go to just under 3k and you really shoot forward. Give it a more than a quarter pedal in 1st gear and street tires go up in smoke. The best way to describe the feel is....kinda like the transmission is slipping until you hit the gas, then you're riding in a slingshot. You're gonna love it!!

I have a 4k stall with a TH400 and I have to get a little more RPMs to get the car movin but it aint that bad.

And when cruising around town and the ricers pull up next to me and rev I just drop it to second and blip the throttle.....tires break loose and the car squirts sideways. The look on thier faces is priceless.

The STR is the torque multiplication of the converter meaning it multiplies engine torque by the number ex 2.2. My understanding of it is the higher the number the "tighter" it is but it is ineffiecent up top, the lower the number the "looser" it is but the more effiecent it is up top.

If my understanding is off someone please let me know.

It will take alittle time to get used to. At first you'll feel alittle let down. But after you get used to it, its very driveable. I had the same fears when I installed my 3600 stall. It still creeps forward, and when you give it gas it will move forward just like a stock converter. It definetely will feel alittle looser, but not too bad after you get used to it. And when you stomp on the gas, it'll peg your tachometer right at your stall speed and start climbing in rpm from there. Thats why stalls are so awesome for drag racing, keeps your rpm up there in the useable range when your WOT.

i have a 4k/2.4 str stall, 373s, headers, ls6 intake, and lid. even with the engine untuned, i still get over 20 mpg which includes a lot of spirited driving and usually ~10 passes at the track per tank. car gets almost 24mpg on the highway. a tune would increase my mileage, just going to show that gears + stall don't always ruin your mileage. at 1/8 throttle or so the car will turn 2k and accelerate with traffic.

A local tranny shop is going to make me a 4L65E, and recommended a 2500 stall converter. How will this converter feel in a street car? I'm not building a drag car, more of a street car with pretentions toward a track car. My concern is day-to-day driveability with this converter.

Don't waste your time with a 2500 stall on an ls1. You should probably go closer to 3500, but for sure don't go any lower than 3000-3200. Don't be scared!!

You're saying it will react pretty much like a non-stall converter? Like the stock converter in a stock tranny??

Pretty damn close.
Don't fear the stall....... I did (more for heat reasons though) but my 4k stall is perfect and I have a non lockup TH400.
With a lockup converter it will act normal at a steady cruise.

Trust us........go big.

Ill be shooting 200 Wet Into my 396 and fuddle said a 3800/2.2 would be great for street/strip.

I had a 3200 and 4.10s before that and it was sweet *** on the street.
