Default cats or no cats?

i am currently planning to slap a set of long tubes on my 98 z28. i was considering an exhaust dump right after the the y pipe but i have heard that the ls1 engines run better with a little backpressure. fire away on that one. also i was wondering if a tune would be necessary following the installation of the headers. current mods : air lid, MAF, ported TB, TB bypass, LS6 intake manifold, smooth bellows

The whole backpressure talk is a myth unless you need power below 1000 rpm. A tune is helpful but not always needed. I would still try to hook up with a local shop and get it done though.
