Default Heads for FI?!?

Ok guys... what is the best budget head for a 22lbs PSI setup? I know that anything on the stock casting wont work.... and AFR's are out of my price range. Would like to have 72cc chamber for compression.

All Pros are good from what I hear. A lot Of turbo guys are running them w/ great success. Still may be a little pricy for you though

what about the edelbrock castings or dart, but what about the oiling issues of the darts not sure if they have been remedied or not.

If you're on a budget just get a set of lightly worked over 6L heads. Half the cost of AFR or AllPros.

You missed the part where I said I know stock castings (no matter how you work them) dont have enough deck material. Need thicker deck like AFR or Dart... etc.

Do you have any idea how many people have gone 8's and 9's on stock casting heads?

If you don't want stock castings then you are left spending $2,500 - $3,000 for AFR, AllPro, or ETP heads.

Wow...no actully I was under the impression (By FFHP, TSP, and Patriot Performance) that running more then 18lbs of boost on stock heads is just asking for a lifted head.

Who is running more then 18lbs of boost on a 400+ CI motor with stock casted heads? Not being a smart ***.. if your right I will love it. I would just need some facts that counter what the above sponsors have told me.

There's a new truth every few years it seems. Back in the day, you couldn't run more than 10 psi before the heads would fly off the motor

317 heads on my old setup, 25 to 30 psi.

those same heads were on the white TT car last year, mid 25 to 28 psi on little turbos.

Best solution out there, probably not. But you don't need to give up on stock castings if you're on a budget.

Harlan... now yours is experience I will take to contradict some of the sponsor info. Sense I have your shift light and 2-step (speaking of which is the new one going to have timing retard for manuals?) I already trust your stuff.

I think part of what people are saying is that there are no guarantees... and stock heads vs: aftermarket heads... chances are that the aftermarket’s will last longer (under more boost).

Patriot is coming out with their own castings in September for ~1800 or so... we will see. With my budget... right now... I will stay with some stock casted heads I think.

But you were running on a close to stock cube motor right? Is there any real difference in the 346 and 408 when we are talking about stock castings handling boost?

that is good to know Harlan. You are right...I remember when 15 psi was the "limit"...it seems the better the tunes...the higher the limit...funny how stuff has changed. My incons have seen 20psi on my 317 heads several times....never lifted a head

Who ever thought we would have a problem of making such great combustion chamber pressures that it pushes the head off the block? I hadn't heard of this until I read about W2W's TT car in Hot Rod about 5 months ago.

It sure is a GREAT time to be in motorsports

Stock castings on the Formula went low 8's. Same worn out heads put on my CE have gone mid 8's. They do start to push some water at 25+psi and 20+* of timing. Use stock MLS gaskets and you'll be fine.

With my research I have done I am leaning toward keeping my 6.0L heads and running custom pistons to get my compression down where it needs to be..

Vince.. I agree I think that is what I am going to do as well. I think I will stick with Stage 2 P+P 317 heads

SS.... haha you commented in my other thread... I am shooting for 18+lbs with a 76MPS turbo... My only concern is the backpressure, I will have to keep that heat in!

I believe Lingenfelter runs worked over LS1 heads on their one off huge HP cars.
