Default Can you run the LS6 intake with the LS1 coolant crossover pipe

Can you run the LS6 intake with the ls1 coolant crossover pipe that circulates the coolant to the rear of the heads?

Yes, you sure can, but you'll have to remove the reinforcement ribs on the bottom of the LS6 intake. A die grinder would flatten the bottom out nicely. Taking your time it should take 45 minutes to have it flat enough to fit over the LS1 cross-over tubes.

I did it awhile back, its a tight fit you will need to bend or push down the crossover pipes close to the valley cover, make sure the knock sensor wires are not in the way, remove the clips that hold the wires. On the side facing down I ported or smoothed down the ribs that sat on top of the pipes as some get in the way so you get a better sitting manifold.
Just why would you need to just get the single pipe for the front and 2 plugs for the rear.

I'm with you....

Just replace the LS1 coolant line with block-off plugs at the rear and a new seperate front line. Essentially its an LS6 set-up and it causes zero issues. Been running that way with my FAST set-up since my 346 was on the road and my car runs cool as a cucumber with the Mezzeire pump.

Replacing the hardware might cost a few bucks but makes it an easy two minute swap without worries or drama.

I would expect you could see the benifit from having better coolant flow in your heads?

It is important to get the cooling to the back, or more important to get ALL of the air bubbles out of there. Air bubbles cause hot spots in the heads, pre-ignition, blown gaskets, cracked heads. I tried cutting the ribs off of the bottom of the LS6 manifiold, and gave up after it just would not fit. I bought another LS6 water pipe for the back, and ran a rubber hose to the front, and connected with a T. Done, no problems.

The thicker decks and beefier port walls of aftermarket heads takes away some of the internal water/coolent capacity that GM designed into the OEM heads to keep them cool. Just guessing, I think it would be a very good idea to use the LS1 vent tube with your aftermarket heads.

1.Bolt on your LS1 vent.
2.Apply thick grease to the top of vent line.
3.Lay your intake directly over top of engine where it should be bolted.
4.Romove intake and inspect where grease has made contact.
5.Cut a small channel into the bottom ribs of your LS6 intake to clear LS1 tube.

Actually there is an issue when doing this. You may not think about it, but #7, 8 cylinder will run a little hotter. There has been a real issue with # 7 getting too hot and detonating. Don't know why the LS6 cars don't have this issue. But the LS1 cars do....

looks take two coolant pipes for the front like I am doing and mock up the rear to work, you can splice it in or what ever you want, why not get coolant to circulate more on the hottest part of the heads (the rear cylinders)

I know this is an old thread, but where are you connecting the rear pipe to up front? thanks

Why spend money on a new tube when you can just very simply shave a few ribs? FFS, people act like this **** is brain surgery.

15 mins with a pair of pliers, snap only the ribs off that contact the tubes and bolt down. Why is this such a big deal.

Some 1/4" hose and a T-fitting. Just splice it in with the line coming off of the front pipe anywhere before the radiator that you can make look clean.

Because not listening to people, and pinging and knocking like a Chinese storage war auction is awesome!

I took an air grinder to mine. Didn't take me 10min. Just use common sense if you are using a grinder, as you can tear up the intake quickly.

I run stock coolant lines on my setup, and im running a FAST102 with milled heads, for the exact reason mention'ed. Ive heard of detonation issues on the back cylinders when blocked off. Ive never had a issue with LS1 lines.

The stock LS1 coolant lines fit under the fAST 102?
