Default Any G5X3 Experience???

I'm looking at putting this cam in my GTO and was curious if anyone has one or has driven a car with one in it? I know that due to our weight(3900lbs) cams like the TRex are not friendly and not many are for sure of the exact specs on the X3, but I would assume it is closer than not. I know that "streetable" is all in the eyes of the beholder and I don't mind a bigger cam, but don't want to have to worry about not being able to really use 6th gear on the interstate because the cam wants to buck and jerk at 1500 - 1700 rpms.

1.) Will this cam clear on a 112 LSA or do I need to go with a 114?
2.) Will the pistons need flycut?
3.) How does the cam respond in the low end rpm's?
4.) Is the weight of the car going to be a huge impact?
5.) Where does the cam like to idle?
6.) What other cams would you compare this one to and why +/-?

Thanks for any input.

LSA has little to do with valves hitting the piston. Yes It will fit on stock heads and no flycutting. The cam makes some great torque all over across the RPMS. Teh cam will idle whereever you tuner can make it idle. If hes good it will idle at 750-800. There is no comparison to this cam.

I have AFR 205's with 65cc chambers and LG said I would need to flycut for this to work......?

The short answer is that you will have to go with a 114 LSA to be safe without flycutting. This is LG's recommendation from what I remember.

Low end RPM's on a cam this size is like all the others, you will give up all your torque below 3k. The way most people compensate for this is going to 390 or 410 gears. If you mean drivability in the low RPM's, a good speed density tune from a pro will really make drivability better.

I would say the cam likes to idle around ~900 RPM.

The MS3 is a cam most people choose over the G5X3 because of the lower cost. They are very close in size.

i have the g5x4 out of juggernaut's car. the cam is used, but in great shape. would you be interested? pm me if so. x4 makes 10rwhp over the x3 across the board.

Size:
234/242

MS3 comparable in size (actualy a tad bigger)

Tuning will make it behave

It will fit on a 114, 112 will fit also but PTV is really tight.

You'll need 3.73 gears or higher and a heavy duty clutch.

It should idle around 850-900

Put that in your car!

Now on the other hand, I have a X3 that I've been thinking about selling.

I would like a cam w/ an awesome flat/high tq curve due to the weight of my car.

Anyone suggest something better in the same ball park as the X3? MS3, F13, F14 ????

I'm currently running the G5x4 cam in a 99 z28 camaro. Stock block and heads with 4.10 gears. I checked my valve clearance and had no problems. The gears prolly help out some but otherwise I have no complaints as for as driveability with this setup. And my sixth gear is the same as it was when the car was bone stock.

G5X3 seems to cover all the bases pretty well. If you are really interested in a cam that makes awesome flat/high torque, I suggest you read this:
