Hello everyone, i have a 96 trans am with the 5.7 and auto tranny well my tranny wont back up and wont go into high gear so i dont know if i should get it rebuilt or replace with a used auto, and i dont know what will work like will a 93-97 f-body automatic work or is there others that will work from other cars like grand ams or ? and yes it is the stock motor and tranny as far as i know its the original that came in the 96 trans am with 5.7 LT1 any ifo would greatly apreciated, please email @ chvllss@verizon.net or respond here.

You need to stick with a unit that has 96^ electronics. The earlier units will not work. They use different set ups.

after looking today i have discovered that it has a 350 turbo transmission in it instead of the original 4l60e.

In a th350 the high-reverse clutch is used for reverse and also third gear. I would bet this is your problem. Good luck, Vince.
